Hong Kong - Cecil Chao Sze-tsung is looking for a few good men. Or just one, really. He needs a man who can convince his daughter, 33 year-old Gigi Chao, to abandon her lesbian lifestyle and embrace, literally, a more traditional relationship.

Miss Chao is rumored to have entered into a civil union with long time girlfriend, Sean Eav in France. Mr. Chao Sze-tsung denies this is the case but is still seeking to break the couple up. His criterion is fairly simple: ”I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor,” Chao told the South China Morning Post. “The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted.”

Aside from this sudden urge to manipulate his daughter’s love life, Gigi herself describes her father as very open as a parent, “My father took a hands-off approach in parenting. I see him as a friend more than a father. My parents never pressure me with high expectations.”

It’s nice to see that the United States is not the sole purveyor of idiocy on homosexuality among first world countries. The idea that homosexuality can be “cured” or that a lesbian just has to “meet the right guy” is a pernicious one. Unfortunately, Mr. Chao Sze-tsung is inadvertently lending credence to this idea and its far darker, more dangerous corollary: “corrective rape” in which raping a lesbian is justified as a method of “curing” the woman of her homosexuality. As a billionaire, I would guess that neither Chao Sze-tsung or his daughter is familiar with the crime or have to worry much about it in their personal lives. Regardless, as funny as it might seem on the surface, such a high-profile example of “Have you tried not being gay?” helps no one.

Miss Chao has laughed it off as endearing but it only shows that the LGBT community still has a long way to go all across the world.
