The state of news today often times results in a double-take when new, over the top pieces, to confirm if the piece is real or satire. The king of satirical news on the internet of course is The Onion. It is amusing enough when US Politicians fall for a piece of satire, but when a foreign government does, it is a new situation entirely:
For those unaware, the Fars News Agency is a semi-official news arm of the Iranian government, with multiple ties to the ruling élite within Iran. With Fars latching on to this piece, and putting it on their website (image above). Since they discovered their mistake, they have pulled the page. But while up, they were listing the piece as something they had made on their own, without any links or reference to their source. That alone makes the mistake even worse.
