Harry Reid Cleared For Release From Hospital After Car Accident

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sustained minor injuries after a car accident Friday in Las Vegas. His office has released the following statement regarding his injuries and short hospitalization:

“Senator Reid and his security detail were involved in a traffic accident today on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. Senator Reid was taken to University Medical Center Hospital by his security detail as a precaution, and walked in on his own. Senator Reid was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. He experienced rib and hip contusions and has been cleared for release by the doctors. Mrs. Reid was not in the car at the time of the accident. Some of Senator Reid’s detail and a staffer had minor injuries in the accident and were evaluated at UMC.”

The Nevada Senator, age 72, was involved in the multi-car accident on Interstate 15 that occurred near 1 p.m. Pacific time.

In 2010, his wife and daughter were involved in a serious accident that broke Mrs. Reid’s back and neck and crushed the van they were driving. While Mrs. Reid was not present in the vehicle at the time of this accident, it certainly brings back painful memories for the family. Luckily, no one was seriously injured.
