When Is The Right Time To ‘Politicize’ Hurricane Sandy? Right Now (NSFW)

Author: November 4, 2012 2:20 pm

Enough with the liberal hand wringing and conservative faux outrage. “Oh boohoo! People are suffering! How can you politicize this? Are you heartless?”

SHUT UP! Just. Shut. Up.

When’s a good time, do you think? After all the damage is cleaned up? Do you live in the same country I live in? Are you not aware of how short our national attention span is? I can measure it in nanoseconds. A week from now, no one will give a good golly goddamn about Sandy and the damage she caused. We’ll be on to the next “big thing.” Maybe Honey Boo Boo’s mother will announce she’s pregnant again.

I will happily call out Republicans and conservatives over their positions concerning FEMA and what they laughingly call “big government.” Yet, you claim I’M the monster?

Seriously. SHUT. UP.

Try looking beyond the end of your nose. The right wants very much to do away with FEMA and shift the cost of disasters to the state. You know what that means? That means when a hurricane hits a cash strapped state, like, for instance, any number of southern red states, the people that live there are screwed. There won’t be any help. The clean up will takes months. People will die and be left homeless. Crime will skyrocket. Disease will spread. Think of the horrors of New Orleans. That’s what happens when federal aid doesn’t arrive (in that instance, it was available but incompetence rendered it worthless).

But hey, let’s not talk about how conservatives and Republicans want to make EVERY large scale disaster a new Katrina style debacle. Let’s be respectful of those suffering until enough time passes and no one wants to think about it anymore. Then we’ll just feel bad for the next group of victims and let the GOP continue to chip away at federal aid.

So let’s try this again. I’m not the problem here. YOU ARE. You and your hand-wringing. Liberals think politicizing any tragedy is awful and we should just keep quiet. Conservatives only think that when it makes their policies look bad and will gladly politicize a tragedy for their own benefit.

Liberals, we did the whole “let’s be polite” thing for decades. It got us Reaganomics and the presidency of George W. Bush. That shit ain’t happening again. Not if I have anything to say about it. Get off your fucking high horse. Stop whining about “incivility” and the “tone of the conversation.” Get a goddamn spine and stand up for what you believe in and fight for it. Gardens do not grow if you just think good thoughts at them. You have to get down in the dirt and mud. You have to pull weeds and kill pests. Every time you roll your eyes at a fellow liberal who treats conservatives like vermin, you’re helping legitimize conservative bullshit. Don’t turn your nose up and pretend you’re “taking the high road.” All you’re doing is refusing to call a selfish prick what they really are; a selfish prick.

Conservatives, any of you that have the balls to complain about politicizing Sandy? Fuck you. Fuck you, you hypocritical pieces of shit. You haven’t shut up about Benghazi since Mitt Romney went on TV and fairly gloated about how awful President Obama was for not personally flying in and defeating the terrorists. The bodies weren’t even cold and you took that ball and ran with it. You’re not on a high horse, you’re the dirt in its hooves. Don’t tell me you care about the victims of Sandy. Unless you know them personally, you don’t give a toss. How do I know? Because the people you choose to represent you talk, nonstop, about how we should all be on our own and no one should ever help us. You love the idea of doing away with FEMA and if you don’t, guess what? Voting for someone who does is exactly the same thing.

So, yes, I WILL “politicize” Sandy by reminding people at every opportunity that the GOP wants, very much, to do away with the kind of federal aid that has saved so many lives in the aftermath of the disaster. I will continue to remind conservatives that the world they claim to want is one where the people whose homes were washed away are thrown out on the streets. “Didn’t have flood insurance because your neighborhood has never flooded before? Too bad. Go beg a church for food. Don’t expect us to help you.” Yeah, that’s you, that’s what you advocate. Some of you are currently pretending that you’re all for federal aid during disasters and you only oppose government assistance for people who have to live on it. Bullshit, you fucking liars. Your politicians reflect your will and that’s NOT what they say. Mitt Romney explicitly said that federal aid is “immoral.” Still voting for him on Tuesday? Of course you are. Let’s drop the pretense of moral superiority. No one’s buying it.

My fellow liberals, if you really give a damn about the future victims of Republican greed and selfishness, you’d be reminding the country of what Republicans and conservative keep saying while the country is still paying attention. If you’re more upset about my “tone,” congratulations, you’re just the kind of liberal the GOP depends on.

Heck of a job you’re doing.
