With only a few hours left at the polls for today’s election, the award-winning filmmaker, comedian, and activist Michael Moore will do just about anything (legal) to get out the vote. In his signature manner — which uniquely combines a  rumpled flamboyance and dramatic sense of urgency belied by a shuffling humility — Moore posted the following message to his 664,000 facebook fans earlier today:

“If you know someone who still hasn’t voted yet and is on the fence – and you think a personal call or text from me may help – text me their cell # at 810-522-8398. I will try to personally contact as many of them as I can in the next few hours. Every minute counts! (don’t post their cell on Facebook – you must text it to me at my personal phone number – which i guess i’ll have to change after today hahaha).”

Moore has also been busy with an eclectic assortment of other activities for getting out the vote, including:

  • Ordering a taxi for a stranded would-be voter: From his twitter feed: @lycos1218 Christina – sorry to hear u don’t have a ride to the polls. I’ve got a taxi standing by to take u. Tweet me back!
  • Making an appearance on Huffpo Live, where Moore shared his jaundiced thoughts about the election, voter repression, the Romney campaign, and Romney supporters (for whom “hate is a huge motivator”)
  • Promoting Election Protection — a nonprofit dedicated to protecting people’s right to vote (if you witness any incidents of voter suppression, call them at 1-866-OUR-VOTE).
