In 2008, Mark Suben ran on a campaign of cleaning up Cortland County New York. Having attained the office of District Attorney, he has managed to enact programs to the benefit of the community. Now running for re-election, some people had been whispering that the DA was in fact the noted 70s porn star, Guy Thomas. Initially elusive, he decided on coming clean earlier this week with this statement to the press:
Those allegations are true. I was an actor in adult films for a short period in the early 70s. I was also an actor in other venues including off Broadway, soap operas and commercial advertisements.
He was a young man, who felt himself immortal; that he could make no mistakes. He wanted the limelight, and was tempted by the “easy path” which had sucked in many others during the 70s. While some might view pornography as dirty, in fact many famous faces got their start in the industry during the same period, such as Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, New Yorker’s Spalding Gray, and even former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger. Don’t believe the Governator was in porn? While not movies, he was fully featured and exposed in the gay porn magazine “After Dark,” even gracing its cover in 1977 with the most clothing one will find on him throughout the magazine:
What can honestly be said about DA Suben now is that he has, literally, nothing to hide. People can say that they have seen all side of the man, and move on past this. He is not the first nor last man to be featured in porn. He had hopes and dreams of being an actor, but fell back to being a county District Attorney for his home. I’d say he has done pretty well for himself all in all. And he has memories to last a lifetime.
If anything else, we should focus on what he has done for the people of his county who he represents. When it comes time to vote for District Attorney in Cortland County, one will hope that they focus on the issues, and not the indiscression of youth.
