With the political world usually revolving around negative news, scandals and general offensiveness by public officials across the country, it’s nice to read — or in this day and age, watch — something nice for once. In this case, it’s the 2012 White House Christmas tree arriving to be received by the First Lady, drawn by horses.
Here’s the video:
Before anybody gets upset about the public display of our First Lady celebrating a Christian holiday, I’d like to venture the opinion that, at this point, Christmas is less of a Christian holiday (in the interest of fairness, the origins are Pagan anyway) and more of a cultural one. There seems to be very little Jesus this time of year — more of a celebration of family and consumerism than a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ (or, to be fair once again, the Winter Solstice).
I must admit a little bit of jealousy, though; I’ve never had a Christmas tree arrive to my house drawn by horses and accompanied by song. I guess that’s one of the perks of being married to the President of the United States. I couldn’t fit a tree that large in my house anyway.
The official tree will go on display in the Blue Room in the White House for the duration of the holiday season. Michelle, Malia, Sasha and dog Bo are shown receiving it.
