Suzanne Venker is the author of How To Choose A Husband, The Flip Side Of Feminism and 7 Myths Of Working Mothers.
In her FOX article, The War On Men, Venker attempts to enlighten us—or I should say enlighten FOX readers—on why men don’t want to marry women.
As you might imagine, this article and her advice comes from a conservative perspective. Those who share her perspective criticized feminists during the 2012 election season and claimed that all liberal women just wanted to be one-woman-abortion-factories and eat a bunch of free, government subsidized birth control. It’s ironic, though, that the women who want all that free birth control are accused of being the ones having all of these abortions but I digress.
Venker explains in her article that women between eighteen and thirty-four want a successful marriage while men’s desire to marry has dwindled. Why, you may ask? Well, it’s all because “Women aren’t women anymore.”
“To say gender relations have changed dramatically is an understatement. Ever since the sexual revolution, there has been a profound overhaul in the way men and women interact. Men haven’t changed much – they had no revolution that demanded it – but women have changed dramatically.
In a nutshell, women are angry. They’re also defensive, though often unknowingly. That’s because they’ve been raised to think of men as the enemy. Armed with this new attitude, women pushed men off their pedestal (women had their own pedestal, but feminists convinced them otherwise) and climbed up to take what they were taught to believe was rightfully theirs.
Now the men have nowhere to go.”
Venker goes on to explain that women who aren’t quiet about demanding equality have just pissed men off. According to her logic, feminism has greatly benefited men because we are just loose women who will have sex at “Hello.” Women have browbeaten men and put their husbands and children in the backseat so we can have ALL the attention.
There IS a silver lining according to Venker. Women should simply surrender to their femininity and let men surrender to their masculinity and it will all be fine. If you fall for this load, then get your pretty little ass into the kitchen, woman, and make me a SAMMICH!
I rocked the slut vote for a reason. Men and women are equal – just not in the U.S. Constitution. WHY IS THIS? It’s up to YOU. If sit back and allow for it to be this way, nothing will change and women like Venker will encourage more politicians to define rape as legitimate or ‘just her fault because she had cleavage.’ Women will continue to earn less than men. Affordable and preventive healthcare will be harder to find and the choice to have an abortion may be taken away.
Women make up the majority of the electorate. We sent a VERY clear message in this election. Women such as Venker who promote conformity are a dying breed, but we still have to endure their influence—and they DO have influence. Just like Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, Jan Brewer and Michele Bachmann do.
American culture still has a long way to go when it comes to feminism. When legislation is passed or presented that is degrading to women—like transvaginal ultrasounds—we get angry and say “NO!!!!” But then we have to deal with the label “Angry Feminist.” Here’s what I’d like to see—how men reacted if they had NO ACCESS TO VIAGRA, earned 30% less than women for the same job and were no longer allowed to watch porn. I bet they’d be pretty cranky!!!!
