There are political and media moments that become so remarkable we all remember where we were when we heard or read about them. I want you to mark this moment, because you have just read the words “Ann Coulter DOES have a soul” and that stunning revelation is worth time-noting.
Why do I say that?
On Fox News this morning (as reported by Huffington Post), sitting across from her BFF, Sean Hannity, Ann, fluffier than usual but clearly exhausted from post-election beat-downs and pre-election throw-downs, looked dead-eyed at Sean and, in response to his suggestion that the House “just pass a bill extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone,” Ann Coulter said:
“OK fine, let’s do that, but in the end, at some point, if the Bush tax cuts are repealed and everyone’s taxes go up, I promise you Republicans will get blamed for it,” she said. “It doesn’t mean you cave on everything, but there are some things Republicans do that feed into what the media is telling America about Republicans.”
Wait? Is she suggesting Republicans actually have a hand in their bubbling, burgeoning bad reputation? Like you, Sean Hannity is now agog. He continues:
“So are you saying that, for PR purposes, that they should give in to Obama on the tax rate?” Hannity asked.
“Not exactly, I–” Coulter said, before stopping herself and saying, “Well, yeah, I guess I am.” [Emphasis added.]
“You’re saying capitulate to Obama?” Hannity stammered. “We don’t have a revenue problem, Ann.”
At this point Sean and his viewers can literally feel Hell freezing over, animated birds are chirping around Ann’s fluffy blonde head, and the tectonic plates shift to right the world. Because Ann Coulter follows with something so unparsed, unspun, so true and rare, I stand by my title. She answers:
“We lost the election, Sean!” [Emphasis added…because I must.]
