Director Of Gun Owners Of America Calls For Gun Owners To Take On The Government (VIDEO)

It never ceases to amaze me how consistently crazy the right can be, even immediately following a national tragedy that has the entire country feeling collectively depressed. Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners for America (the crazy bastard child of the NRA), a man who was too extreme for freaking Pat Buchanan and who threw his support around David Koresh and the fringe Branch Dravidian, appeared on Hardball where he suggested that gun owners should grab their AR-15s and overthrow the government when it shows a trail of constitutional abuses, such as stealing elections. Of course Larry didn’t make a peep about when George Bush did it in 2000 and kinda again in 2004. This is also the same guy who believed that a part of Obamacare involved repossessing citizens guns.

CHRIS MATTHEWS (HOST): So you’re like Sharron Angle, out in Nevada, who said we need our Second Amendment rights to control when our politicians get out of hand.

PRATT: That’s our Second Amendment rights, she’s not making that up.

MATTHEWS: So how would you use your Second Amendment rights if you didn’t like the way your congressman or senator is representing you? […]

PRATT: By being prepared. […]

MATTHEWS: So Larry, it’s not just the right to use guns to protect your homes, it’s the right to take on your government?

PRATT: The government has been overboard. (Think Progress)

Here’s the video:

Somebody really needs to inform Larry Pratt that the Queen of England, although incredibly intimidating, isn’t going to reclaim her territory again anytime soon. Also, he needs to know that a gaggle of Larry the Cable guy slobs in camouflage stand little chance against drones, nuclear bombs and the Marines. Our unflinching support for unbridled gun usage is like our unflinching and blind support for Israel. But even as many ardent gun proponent lawmakers are finally having a reasonable pang of consciousness, including NRA poster boy Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), we can sooner expect a decent movie from Nicolas Cage than nut jobs like Larry Pratt ever striking a reasonable tone with regards to sensible gun regulation.

I leave you with a quote from Thomas Jefferson himself, the very founder father who these so-called patriots claim to read in between issues of Guns & Ammo, that brilliantly encapsulates the argument for sensible gun laws:

“I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.” - Thomas Jefferson, July 12, 1816

  • Proof positive that crazy is a factor for gun ownership. No wonder the gun owners don’t want the ‘big bad gubmint’ to keep crazies from getting guns.
