NRA President and Pretend Human Being, Wayne LaPierre, may be coming off celebrating piece on earth, rocking to Jingle Bell Glock and having an armed guard at his family’s gathering, but it seems that Senate Republicans are siding with LaPierre. Wow, what do you know.
The very same party that doesn’t feel there should be a single regulation, however sensible, on a 300 round killing machine but wants the government small enough to fit into a vagina, feels that renewed gun reform – including a return to a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines – isn’t the proper response to the devastating tragedy in Newtown in which 20 school children were shot dead.
“We need real solutions to a significant problem in our country, and I’m not sure passing another law in Washington is going to actually find a real solution,” Senator John Barrasso, a Wyoming Republican, said on “Fox News Sunday.” (Bloomberg)
Sen. Lindsey Graham also chimed in and stated his opposition to another ban on assault rifles. Republicans opposing sensible legislation designed to help society, you say? And Homer Simpson likes beer.
“I don’t want to say we’re one law away from solving this problem,”he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” A ban “didn’t work before and it won’t work in the future.” (Bloomberg)
These comments come amid LaPierre’s John Wayne-like press conference in which he blamed everything under the sun instead of guns and suggested the focus be shifted to school safety, including a call for armed guards, which was met with vast criticism.
The GOP wonders why it doesn’t win major elections and is adrift in a sea of angry white guys. Heck, even NRA posterboy Sen. Mark Warner (D-WV) has seen the light and highlighted the need to impose some reasonable gun laws.
