With gun control and school shootings being the most prominent discussion taking place in America today, a story like this really makes you just stop and question the sense of it all.
The Montpelier Exempted Village School District in northwestern Ohio voted on Wednesday night to allow certain staff members to carry loaded weapons in school. According to NorthwestOhio.com, the school board passed a resolution “authorizing certain individuals to carry concealed firearms on school premises pursuant to O.R.C. 2923.122.”
Ohio law prohibits guns on school property, but if a person has a conceal and carry license and “has written authorization from the board of education or governing body of a school to convey deadly weapons,” then the guns are allowed. With one simple vote, the unimaginable has happened.
The site also reports that the resolution allowing guns in school halls was not part of the boards agenda prior to the meeting taking place and no information was available as to how school board members or voted.
So, between the bullet proof backpacks and armed janitors our kids should be completely safe now, right?
According to INC Now, a school superintendent states the following: “It’s kind of a cliche, but the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, so we decided to be very selective, but to allow a select few individuals to conceal carry. Yeah, you’re reading that quote correctly, “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”
If you live in Montpelier, I think it’s time to consider home schooling.
