Police have reported that at 3:57 p.m. January 14th, a domestic violence dispute occurred inside the Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville, Texas. Lewisville Police spokesman Captain Kevin Deaver told KRLD that the shooting involved a female employee at one of the stores. Captain Deaver’s recorded statement is available on the CBS DFW website.

“It was a domestic dispute with an employee who works at one of the businesses at the mall. Mall security was notified. They were in the process of escorting him out of the building when he pulled a handgun from his clothing and shot himself,” Deaver said. He continued with “No one else has been shot.”

The City of Lewisville tweeted the following at 4:51 p.m.

The handgun was apparently concealed inside the man’s clothing and as he was being escorted from the mall, he pulled the gun out, put it under his chin, and pulled the trigger. The incident occurred near a courtyard inside the center of the mall near Kay Jewelers. Police are currently speaking with the young woman who was in conversation with the gunman. Reports are suggesting she and the gunman had a relationship, but details have not emerged about the precise nature of the relationship.

Lewisville is 18 miles northwest of downtown Dallas.
