On Friday, at 1:15 PM local time, a bomb was detonated outside the United States embassy in Ankara, Turkey. According to reports, the bomb went off inside a security checkpoint at the entrance to the embassy, killing two guards and wounding several other people.
At this time, a suicide bomber is suspected but, so far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Islamic fundamentalists and Kurdish rebels are known hostiles within Turkey.
The embassy building itself is has not been damaged and no US officials appear to have been harmed. Several people have been taken to the local hospitals but none seem to be in immediate danger.
