Racist And Biased – Head Of Fox News Calls Obama ‘Lazy’

Here’s a fascinating study in the double standard the “liberal” media holds Fox News to.

In 2011, Ron Schiller, the chief fundraiser and senior VP for NPR was caught on tape criticizing conservatives and the Tea Party. He was fired/resigned. Shortly after that, NPR CEO Vivian Schiller (no relation) was forced out over the same “scandal.”

Fox had collected another two scalps and the “liberal” media couldn’t seem to rally a defense.

Now, in an interview with Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, a known GOP operative that worked as a media consultant for Reagan Nixon and H.W. Bush, has come right out as openly hostile to President Obama. The Week reports on excerpts from Ailes’ biography in which he says the following about Obama:

“Obama’s the one who never worked a day in his life. He never earned a penny that wasn’t public money. How many fund-raisers does he attend every week? How often does he play basketball and golf? I wish I had that kind of time. He’s lazy, but the media won’t report that… I didn’t come up with that. Obama said that, to Barbara Walters.”

Considering Ailes sets the tone and direction of Fox’s politics, it’s hard to overstate just how revealing this one statement is. It’s also hard to know where to start with just how breathtakingly wrong it is on just about every conceivable level.

Let’s start with the myth that public service doesn’t count as “work.” This is a narrative the right-wing started decades ago when they began their campaign of demonizing government. The idea was, instead of attracting the best and brightest with the idea of serving their fellow citizen, the GOP would stigmatize public service as a career path for those who couldn’t cut it in the “real” world of the private sector. Public service used to be held up as a sacrifice (no one gets rich working for the government unless they’re a congressperson or a corrupt contractor) for the betterment of society. Now, a career in the public sector is no longer “work?” Earning a salary paid by the taxpayer is not a legitimate job?

Does that include our military? Can you imagine if a liberal said that being in the military isn’t a “real” job because it’s on the public’s dime? They would be crucified by Fox.

How often does he play basketball or golf? Who cares? Obama has taken less time off than any president save President Carter in the last 40 years (or more). Here’s the numbers:

Carter (Democrat): 79 days in four years or 5.4%
Reagan (Republican): 484 days in eight years or 16.5%
Bush 41 (Republican): 543 days in four years or 37.1%
Clinton (Democrat): 152 days in eight years or 5.2%
Bush 43 (Republican): 1020 days in eight years or 34.9%
Obama (Democrat): 131 Days in his first four years or 8.9%

It’s interesting to note that the two presidents that took off the most time grew up as millionaires while the rest grew up in far more modest surroundings. Carter, Reagan (whatever you may think of him as a president), Clinton and Obama all had to work for a living while the Bushes were raised among money and privilege. I think that’s far more indicative of their work ethic than the color of Obama’s skin.

So playing basketball or golf makes one a slacker in the Oval Office? What about reading hundreds of books while on the job? If Karl Rove is to be believed (a tall order to be sure), George W. Bush read 110 books in 2006, another 51 in 2007 and about 40 or so in 2008. I can read about 100 hundred pages in an hour if I push it. Even as a full-time stay at home dad and a part-time writer I don’t have that kind of time. I would hope that the President of the United States would be slightly more busy than I am. But let’s call the black guy lazy. Because Ailes and the propaganda organization he built is all about “fair and balanced.”

The overt racism dripping from Ailes is unmistakable. Public money? Basketball? Lazy? Honestly, it would hardly be more racist if Ailes said Obama “looks like a skinny ghetto crackhead.” I know, I’m just another liberal playing the race card. Yet Fox News keeps pushing this narrative that the president that’s spent 9% of his time in office on vacation is somehow “lazier” than the previous president that spent 35% of his time away from the White House. No one ever called Clinton or Bush lazy. What did they do differently? I can’t imagine…

This will cause a stir on the left and make absolutely no headway into the “liberal” mainstream media. Why? Because networks like CNN are so terrified of being labeled “biased” by Fox News that they’ve abdicated their role as fact checkers and impartial information sources. It doesn’t matter how egregious the sins of Fox and those who work there, they will never face the scrutiny reserved for everyone else. Ailes could come right out and say his goal is to use Fox to sabotage President Obama’s next for years and no one will bat an eye.

It must be nice to be above reproach.
