What would we do without Rush Limbaugh? Okay, let me rephrase that: who would we laugh at without Rush Limbaugh? His sexist rants have already lost him millions in sponsor dollars but he still keeps flogging the same…um… dead horse.
This time he thinks he’s a music critic, too. Waxing philosophical (well, as close as he can get) about the new song by Beyonce’, Bow Down, Limbaugh misconstrues the lyrics and gets the message of the song 180 degrees out of whack.
First, let’s look at the lyric:
“I know when you were little girls
You dreamt of being in my world
Don’t forget it , don’t forget it
Respect that, bow down bitches
I took some time to live my life
But don’t think I’m just his little wife
Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted
This my shit, bow down bitches” (source)
Now, I’m not a fan of most modern music. I’m an old hippy who loves classic and prog rock. But even I can understand that Beyonce’ is throwing down on the girls who gave her shit growing up (hey, that’s actually a good lyric – I wonder if she’d pay me for it?). You’d have to be, well, an idiot to not get the second line in the second verse: But don’t think I’m just his little wife.
I’m guessing that Limbaugh didn’t actually listen to the song or read the lyrics. I’ll bet that he just read the story about her new tour in The Telegraph and went from there. In a typical Limbaugh direction. The sexist one.
“She got married, she married the rich guy, she now understands — she now understands it’s worth it to bow down and now she’s passing on this advice…” (source)
Excuse me while I facepalm for a moment. Thank you. Look, I understand that this is his schtick. He’s a misogynist, he can’t help himself. But to offer his “insight” on a topic he knows nothing of regarding a woman he could never hope to relate to is just a bit much.
As for Beyonce’ “marry(ing) the rich guy” that is such a reach I’m surprised he didn’t get a hernia. Jay-Z, the “rich guy,” is worth about $460 million. Beyonce’, the poor thing, is only worth $350 million (coincidentally, the same as Limbaugh himself). Oh dear, whatever would she do if he left her, god forbid? You know, I think that it never occurred to Rushie-poo that a mere woman could be worth enough to not have to worry about marrying a “rich guy.” With his history of hateful speech against women, I bet that’s a totally foreign concept to him. Not that this is an excuse. There IS no excuse for his ugly rhetoric when it comes to women. But I do think that most of us ladies really understand why Limbaugh is this way: he’s terrified of strong women. And Bey is definitely a strong woman. I don’t know about you but I’d love to see Beyonce’ kick Rushbo’s fat ass… lyrically speaking, of course.
