The bombing at the Boston marathon has really brought out the bottom feeders. From conspiracy theories to Islamaphobia to advocating torture for the remaining suspect to simply making shit up, we’ve seen the crazies come crawling out from under their rocks. And now we can add yet another to that list: Rep. Stella Tremblay of New Hampshire was effusive in her praise for Glenn Beck last week, especially for his prediction of a “Black Ops” event:
“Just as you said would happen. Top Down, Bottom UP. The Boston Marathon was a Black Ops ‘terrorist’ attack. One suspect killed, the other one will be too before they even have a chance to speak. Drones and now ‘terrorist’ attacks by our own Government. Sad day, but a ‘wake up’ to all of us. First there was a ‘suspect’ then there wasnt (sic). Infowars broke the story and they knew they had been ‘found out'” (source)
But Tremblay is an elected official. And while some other elected officials have jumped on the torture-and-suspend-his-rights bandwagon, none have gone to the full-tilt insane precipice that she has (Yet. Give it some time -ed.). When she posted her message on Glen Beck’s Facebook page, she also posted a video of Alex Jones on his diatribe about the event. Girlfriend, now you have been found out.
This isn’t Tremblay’s first foray into the land of the insane. Previously she claimed that President Woodrow Wilson was a Nazi sympathizer. She sent around the link to a video to her colleagues in the New Hampshire House – doctored, of course – that supposedly shows President Obama admitting that he was born in Kenya.
In an interview with the Foster’s Daily Democrat (now there’s some irony for you) on Tuesday, Tremblay doubled down on the insanity:
“It was one of my constituents that sent me an email, and it went to a site where a, I think it was a major retired marine was speaking, and then he said, ‘Please go to Infowars,’ and they had pictures of, what is it, black ops? With black backpacks. They show them at the scene, so they knew something was going on.”
Ohhhhhh.. I think I get it now. These idiots don’t know the difference between off-duty soldiers in fatigues and Black Ops guys. A group of 15 soldiers ran in the marathon in full gear to honor comrades killed in the Middle East and at home, a salute organized by the Military Friends Foundation. Those soldiers, who were gathered aorund the medical tent at the finish line, were heroes among heroes on that day. But, honestly, who in their right mind would mistake those soldiers for Black Ops personnel? Oh, right… big caveat.
The New Hampshire Democrats, as one would suspect, are astonished at Tremblay’s departure from reality and have asked the state’s Republican party to condemn her accusations. Spokesperson Harrell Kirstein called her
“… an embarrassment to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, to her constituents, and to the entire state of New Hampshire.”
She’s not just an embarrassment to them. Those of us who refuse to try to explain the inexplicable with nonsense are embarrassed, too. This idiocy has gone far enough. We apply Occam’s Razor to this and arrive at the conclusion that shit happens. It’s scary and it’s unfair and it’s horrible. But making up ridiculous scenarios to comfort yourself is a fallback to primitive man, living in caves and concocting stories to make the night seem less frightening. It is not the act of civilized, reasoning beings. It makes the whole country look stupid and, more importantly, it dishonors those who died. Please just stop.
