Frustrated with the Tea Party’s government showdown antics, Republican officials directed their anger at Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz this week. Politico reports on a GOP Steering Committee meeting that turned into an angry mob. During the closed-door October 2 meeting, Republicans directed their angst at the junior senator and his extremist colleagues.
According to Politico, one GOP senator after another put pressure on Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz to provide a proposal to end the government shutdown. Cruz couldn’t offer any clear path towards that end. Nor could Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz explain his group’s plan for “defunding” Obamacare.
Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz is a man with no plan
An undisclosed source from within the senate told Politico:
“It was very evident to everyone in the room that Cruz doesn’t have a strategy – he never had a strategy, and could never answer a question about what the end-game was. I just wish the 35 House members that have bought the snake oil that was sold could witness what was witnessed today at lunch.”
The anonymous senator went on to describe Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz’s reaction to hostility from his fellow Republicans:
“He kept trying to change the subject because he never could answer the question, It’s pretty evident it’s never been about a strategy – it’s been about him. That’s unfortunate. I think he’s done our country a major disservice. I think he’s done Republicans a major disservice.”
America wants the GOP leadership to take Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz to the woodshed
The New York Times reports the climate in Washington is similar to other places around the country. Almost everyone feels frustrated with the Tea Party’s role in the government shutdown:
“From statehouses to Capitol Hill, frustration is building and spilling out during closed-door meetings as Republicans press leaders of the effort to block funding for the health care law to explain where their strategy is ultimately leading.”
The Tea Party’s inexperience and overconfidence has senior Republicans rightfully concerned. The GOP can’t put the blame on President Barack Obama or Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Voters know exactly where the blame belongs. Further, the Tea Party’s guaranteed to cause a major anti-Republican backlash across the country. After 42 attempts to repeal Obamacare, voters are beyond tired of Tea Party temper tantrums. A September 30th CNN poll, revealed that Americans blame the Republicans — not the president — for the government shutdown and associated economic losses
Meet Tea Party Senator Cruz’s “Architect of the Brink”
While Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz takes much of the public blame, a different freshman Tea Party Senator stays under the radar. Mark Meadows (R-NC) owns the dubious title “Architect of the Brink.” Meadows was the one whose letter to Republican leaders suggested tying Obamacare to federal government funding next year. Meadows has managed to stay out of the spotlight so far. But — as author and designer of the GOP’s extortionist strategy — he played a pivotal role in forcing the government shutdown on us.
Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz’s entire strategy depends on cutting off government funding to destroy Obamacare. Now that Republican went along with the government shutdown, they’re held hostage by the extremists. No offers can satisfy them. Worse, they have no plan whatsoever for getting the federal government up and running again.
