Iran Agrees To Historic Nuclear Deal, American Right Wing Is Outraged. OUTRAGED!

History is made, the Middle East gets safer and righties attack

This past weekend brought news of a new agreement with Iran. Secretary of State John Kerry helped to broker a deal between the Iranians and major world superpowers. The deal freezes Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of some of the economic sanctions previously imposed. It’s not perfect but it’s a great start.

Of course, the right refuses to acknowledge the importance of the agreement. As far as they are concerned, anything that happens with President Obama’s blessing, as this deal was, is tantamount to declaring that America is dead. While people who actually care about the safety of the Middle East and the world were full of optimism and congratulations, the right saw this as yet another opportunity to bash the president and his surrogates.

The right-wing exaggeration derby begins here

First out the gate in the race to look stupidest was Senator John Cornyn (R-TX):

John Bolton took a swing at the deal and, of course, the President in the Weekly Standard blog:

This is not, as the Obama administration leaked before the deal became public, a “compromise” on Iran’s claimed “right” to enrichment. This is abject surrender by the United States.

The Washington Post‘s Jennifer Rubin alluded to communism in her Right Turn blog:

We are in essence paying Iran $5 billion to $10 billion, which it can use to continue enriching and of course sponsoring terrorists. The communist adage that capitalists would sell them the rope to hang the capitalist is turned on its head; we are now paying our enemies to manufacture the rope.

Conservative blowhard and radio talker Mark Levin posted on his Facebook page:

The theme of surrender and capitulation continued with Ben Shapiro of Breitbart who compared President Obama to Neville Chamberlain, a favorite allusion:

The easy comparison is to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler in Munich in 1938, when he signed allowed Hitler to consolidate his gains in the Sudetenland on the bare promise of no further aggression in Europe.

It must be an easy comparison because Shapiro wasn’t the only one who went there. Daniel Pipes posted on the National Review Online:

This wretched deal offers one of those rare occasions when comparison with Neville Chamberlain in Munich in 1938 is valid. An overeager Western government, blind to the evil cunning of the regime it so much wants to work with, appeases it with concessions that will come back to haunt it. Geneva and Nov. 24 will be remembered along with Munich and Sept. 29.

Erick Erickson carried things to the absurd extreme, as is his wont:

And George Will, who should really know better, whined on Fox News Sunday that the deal will lead to nuclear proliferation in the Middle East:

“… the president said he’s not going to contain a nuclear Iran. I think that will be our policy, containing them, because they’re going to get the bomb… the big question is what will Israel, abetted by Saudi Arabia, which is terrified of Iran, do at this point… will the final reaction be the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the Middle East as the Saudis seek their own arsenal?

Why are they so upset? Because this messes up their End Times nonsense

My gosh, they are just so predictable, aren’t they? John Kerry has managed to make the Middle East just a bit safer for everyone, including Israel. According to the agreement, Iran cannot try to make a nuclear bomb now without being detected. They cannot install any new centrifuges, a necessary tool for enriching uranium. They agreed to stop work on a heavy-water reactor. They accepted daily monitoring from nuclear inspectors. That all sounds pretty good, don’t you think? It’s a start.

You know what I think? This agreement throws a wrench into their Armageddon plans. The situation in Syria has petered out for the moment so Iran now draws their attention again. For their End Times scenario to work, there must be conflict in the Middle East. Every step to alleviate that drives another nail into the coffin of their twisted religious doctrine. The way these people talk about this — their codes and dog-whistles — clearly paint Obama as the Antichrist. They believe that his actions, especially concerning the Middle East, will jump-start their little end-of-the-world drama. They WANT war in the Middle East. They WANT death and destruction. Because they believe that will usher in the Second Coming. They see everything as the end of the world because they WANT it to be. And that is just some premium sick, to my mind.
