If Pope Francis ever finds himself in need of a hammer and some nails, he may want to consider avoiding Home Depot. Ken Langone, founder of the company, has been
whining kvetching pissing and moaning grumpy about Pope Francis having the gall to promote the message of Jesus. In recent months, the Pope has been on a verbal rampage against the horrors that the unrestrained greed of “savage capitalism” has wrought across the globe. He’s been preaching that the message of Jesus was not to get rich by screwing the poor but to serve them. This has deeply offended poor Langone’s tender sensibilities.
Just who the hell does Pope Francis think he is? The Pope or something?
Langone said he’s raised the issue more than once with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, most recently at a breakfast in early December at which he updated him on fundraising progress.
“I’ve told the cardinal, ‘Your Eminence, this is one more hurdle I hope we don’t have to deal with. You want to be careful about generalities. Rich people in one country don’t act the same as rich people in another country,’ ” he said.
Well, he’s right about that. The United States has some of the greediest rich people on the planet. And Pope Francis knows it. Not only did Wall Street executives destroy the economy and throw millions out of work, they gave themselves HUGE bonuses using tax payer dollars. And then spent the next several years screwing those very same tax payers in every conceivable way.
Why doesn’t Pope Francis support the GOP?
That’s a tricky question. Maybe it’s because in the richest country in the world the rich have invested enormous amounts of money in order to
bribe pay off buy persuade politicians. Their goal? To cut food stamps to hungry children, deny healthcare to the sick and otherwise slash the social safety net all while giving more tax breaks to the already mega-wealthy. Whatever could Pope Francis find objectionable about that?
But poor Ken isn’t buying it (an unusual experience for him, no doubt):
Langone, who describes himself as a devout Catholic who prays every morning, said he has told the cardinal that “you get more with honey than with vinegar.” He said he also wants to make clear that wealthy Americans are some of the biggest donors in the world.
“There is no nation on earth that is so forthcoming, so giving,” he said, adding that he hopes the pope can “celebrate a positive point of view rather than focusing on the negative.”
Keep in mind, poor billionaire Ken Langone is heavy duty fundraiser for the GOP. When he brags about his philanthropy, that’s like a serial killer bragging that he’s good with kids while he kills their parents and wears their faces like a mask.
By the way, that charity the rich like to tout as proof they’re not self-centered sociopaths? Turns out it goes to benefit the rich more than it does the poor. A fact that Pope Francis is probably aware of.
So there you have it: an elite 1%er that spends his free time making sure Republicans have the resources to demonize and crush the poor and sick. And this guy has the cojones to be upset at Pope Francis for preaching the actual, literal words of Jesus. You know, help the poor and sick without reservation? Don’t worship money? Don’t be a dick? In other words, the exact opposite of what Republicans do. The arrogance is breathtaking.
