Youth Minister Arrested For Raping Girl In Church And Child Porn

Raping a 15-year-old girl caused a youth pastor to fall off his pedestal, hard. “Both of us knew it was wrong,” claimed the Brian Keith Smith (33) man. Really? She is 15. He is 33. One of them is a child, the other is a molestor. And the rapist is trying to share the blame? I don’t think so.

The complaint against Smith, a western Pennsylvania minister, said that he recruited the teenager to his youth group, The Joshua Project in September of 2013,

“At this point in time the victim reported that the defendant began driving her home from church after youth group meetings. The victim stated in late fall of 2013 they began to frequently send text messages to each other. Victim stated that soon after the frequent text messages, the defendant would drive her home. While driving, the defendant would stroke the victim’s face which encouraged intimacy.”

Smith first kissed her in February 2014. The first sexual act happened at the Journey By Grace Westmoreland church and continued multiple times. His seduction escalated over the next six months, Rostraver Police Chief Greg Resetar said,

“The assault had escalated to penetrating her with his fingers, exchanging oral sex, and other sexual contact. It appears as if Mr. Smith is a very manipulative person. It appears that he may tend to prey on children that may be experiencing some problems in their life. At that point, he sort of makes his way into their personal life and he encourages this type of activity.”

Not only did the minister molest the child, he had her send him sexually explicit photos by text message. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

When the molestation was finally made public, Grace Church Rev. Bill Bailey insisted that,

“The church reacted quickly to inform law enforcement and terminate Smith’s employment after learning of the allegations. When allegations were heard and made against our church youth director Mr. Brian Smith, we immediately went with the offended party to the Rostraver police. We have made every effort to cooperate with our local police department.”

Resetar revealed that Smith had been “Under investigation for similar accusations” in another state, but no charges had been filed. However Resetar planned to reopen the case. The youth minister was charged with felony aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors and felony possession of child pornography, stemming from explicit cellphone pictures he received from the girl according to the Associated Press.  He is being held at Westmoreland County Prison with a bond set at $50,000.

Maybe churches should drop by their youth ministers’ groups with some frequency? Maybe churches should better research their minister candidates? Maybe God does not smile upon men who molest children?
