Surprise! People Who Despise Government Are Going To Hell, According To The Christian Bible

shut down

It’s no secret that conservatives despise government. Almost every right wing talking point includes some rhetoric on how horrible the government is. It’s also no secret that they love to pray on the street corners and wave their Bibles around in public places. What conservatives don’t want you to know is that the very book they wave around at their anti-government rallies condemns people who despise government to Hell.

According to the Christian Bible, 2 Peter, Chapter 2, there will be false teachers and false prophets who will rise up and lead the weak minded astray. These people will pursue their own lusts. They will be greedy and ‘covetous’ seeking after earthly desires. ┬áBecause of these people, Christianity itself will be spoken evil of.

2 Peter chapter 2, verses 10 – 15 goes on to say who these people are:

“10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.”

Wow. Remind you of any party you know?

The passage goes on to say:

11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

The passage continues, describing these government haters as “wells without water”, “clouds that are carried with a tempest;” and declaring that they are those “to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.” (17) Further down in the chapter, it says that they are “dogs that have returned to their own vomit,” and compares them to pigs that were washed, but return to rolling in the mud (vs 22).

Yes, there is an entire chapter of the Christian Bible that is solely devoted to condemning people who despise government. It clearly says that God’s judgment of these people “lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not” (verse 3). Yet listening to right wing drivel, you would think the Bible supports their fanatical, violent, government hating extremism. Wrong.

If you listen to the right wing you would probably also think that there are entire chapters devoted to condemning gays and abortion, not government hating extremists. Wrong again. There aren’t any chapters of the

Bible devoted to condemning either gay people or abortion. In fact, the only place in the New Testament that addresses homosexuality at all is Roman’s Chapter 1 & 2 and that passage talks about every kind of lust of the flesh, and every kind of sin imaginable. Then it slaps the judgmental, self-righteous right wing in the face with this:

“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.” (Romans Chapter 2, verse 1)

Wait, so the Bible specifically mentions gays and then specifically says not to judge? Who would have thought that?

As far as the issue of abortion goes, again there are not entire chapters of the Bible devoted to the subject, even though the right wing would have people believe that it’s the most important issue in the entire world to the Christian God. The fact is that the only place where the Bible even hints at the subject of abortion is Numbers 5:11-31. Not only is that chapter not a scathing indictment of abortion, it’s supposedly a historical account of that time when God commanded that women accused of adultery be made to drink an abortion producing potion. So a God entirely opposed to abortion, instructed the priests to perform drug induced abortions?

Under Jewish law, abortion is neither approved of or condemned, but for the first 40 days of pregnancy, Judaism considers the fetus to be the same as ‘water’. Abortion is always commanded when the life of the mother is endangered, at any time during pregnancy, right up until the crowning at birth. This is quite unlike the beliefs shoved down our throats by fanatical Christian extremists. What these right wing nut cases seem to have conveniently forgotten is that their supposed God (Jesus) was a Jew. Also, the same God who handed down Jewish law is also supposed to be the God of Christianity.

If the Bible does nothing else, it absolutely exposes right wing hypocrisy. How can Christianity be their religion, when they don’t follow any of it’s teachings? The things that the Bible does specifically mention, for example charity, loving your enemies, putting down your weapons, not judging others, welcoming the foreigner at the gates, putting others before yourself, not lording yourself over others, not despising the government… those things are altogether ignored by the right wing. They prefer to take a stand on things the Bible never even mentions, or worse, things the Bible actually tells them not to focus on (like gay marriage, for instance).

The fact that republicans wave the Bible around at their anti-government rallies is a pretty strong indicator that they understand the Bible about as well as they understand politics, history, math or science. I personally wouldn’t want to wave around a book that compares me, and those like me, to dogs eating our own vomit. Then again, it’s pretty obvious that republicans do a lot more Bible waving and thumping, than actual Bible reading.
