At 1:15 am on April 14, Danielle Beck and her boyfriend, Mathew Zanatta, were driving on Nevada route 1-15, heading north at 75 miles per hour. Zanatta, who was driving the car, suddenly realized that there were cows standing in both lanes of the road ahead of him. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but was unable to do so before striking one of the cows. The dying animal rolled onto the roof of the car, which careened off the highway, coming to a stop in a culvert.
Both Beck and her boyfriend were taken by ambulance to a hospital located in nearby Mesquite. The police, who were forced to herd an additional four cows off the highway in order to avoid similar accidents and injuries, notified the owner of the livestock, infamous right wing fanatic, Clive Bundy.
Bundy never showed up to take care of his animals, to survey the damage caused by them or to ask about the condition of Beck and her boyfriend.
Beck filed a suit against Bundy on Sept. 14, stating that he:
…recklessly, carelessly and negligently allowed his cows to enter onto Interstate 15 through an area where he had no grazing or other rights.
Her attorney, Bob Apple, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
She’s lucky she lived. I’ve been practicing since 1975, and I’ve never seen someone with so many broken ribs.
Beck, who has only recently been able to return to her job as a school teacher, is asking for $20,000 to cover medical expenses, lost wages and other damages.
Bundy claims that the accident is not his problem or his responsibility. Bundy has been claiming for years that the state has no rights to the land surrounding his property and that the property does not belong to the government (read more about that bogus claim here). He uses that entirely false pretext to justify allowing his cattle to graze on land he has no authority or legal right to use, at the expense of all other taxpayers. Yet, in his statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Bundy now claims that it is the state’s responsibility to maintain a fence to keep his illegally grazing cattle from roaming onto the highway.
And that’s not all. Bundy claims that the accident victims are liable to him, for hitting his cow, that was standing in the middle of a public highway.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
“Bundy said Wednesday that technically he is within his rights to make a claim of his own against Beck.
“The person whose car hit that cow is liable to me,” he said.”
Bundy is the poster child for the right wing personality, which is extremely similar to the personality of someone who has been clinically diagnosed as a psychopathic narcissist. (*Manifested by a lack of empathy, an extreme sense of entitlement, and the need to be constantly worshiped and admired — source)
Not surprisingly, on Thursday, the State Transportation Department said that Bundy is responsible for the accident. To reach the highway where the accident occurred, Bundy’s cattle had to travel across miles of federal land, upon which Bundy does not have any grazing rights. To claim that the government is responsible to build a fence to keep his cows off the road, while at the same time claiming the government doesn’t own the land and can’t keep him from grazing his cattle there, is beyond absurd.
I feel sorry for Beck and her boyfriend. Bundy is a freeloading, scum bagging fanatic, who has no concern for them or for the pain and suffering his actions have caused them. Even if Beck wins her suit, there’s little hope Bundy will ever pay her a dime. In his mind everyone owes him something and he owes no-one anything, common symptoms of twisted teabagger mentality.
