You know how Kansas Republicans passed massive income tax cuts for the wealthy and then caused the state to go into debt? The massive tax cuts threaten to leave the state with a $238 million budget deficit by 2016. That’s a disaster put on the backs of Kansans by Republicans, and they’re so desperate to fill the coffers back up that they’re going into the sex toy business.
The state hopes to generate at least $163,000 by selling thousands of x-rated items seized from five sex shops in four cities. The owner of the businesses had failed to pay the above amount in state taxes, so he’s being forced to sell the products in an auction to pay the state what he owes.
Of course, this all seems extremely out of place for a Republican-dominated state government that has been damn near puritanical in the way it deals with issues in the sexual realm. And it didn’t take long for Democrats to mock the sale. Kansas Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley remarked that Governor Sam Brownback must be desperate to bring in some revenue for the money-starved state, and slammed the GOP for criticizing Brownback’s 2014 Democratic challenger Paul Davis.
Brownback is so desperate to fill the massive hole in the state budget caused by his reckless income tax cuts that the state of Kansas is now in the porn business. This is the same governor whose supporters spent this past week attacking his opponent for a strip club incident.
In response, a spokeswoman for Governor Brownback said,
While we do not agree with the type of business involved here, it was nonetheless a legal business that was closed due to failure to pay taxes. The state cannot legally destroy the property. Returning the property to the owner would have rewarded the business that violated state tax law. This is the same process used by previous administrations.
That may be so, but it’s still damn funny since Kansas is clearly in need of cash due to GOP incompetence. And rather than repealing the income tax cut, Brownback is content with selling sex toys to earn petty cash. If Democrats did this, Republicans would be having a field day with it. They’d accuse Democrats of being sex-obsessed degenerates who are attacking a small business owner. But it’s Republicans in this case so it’s all good, right? Doesn’t it just make you smile seeing conservatives abandon their so-called “family values” in an effort to fix an economic mess they created in the first place?
