Republican National Committee Co-Chair Says Wisconsin Voters Are Stupid

Reince Priebus might want to start searching for a new second-in- command because the woman who currently holds the position just publicly insulted Wisconsin voters.

During a GOP rally with Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefish in Wisconsin, RNC co-chair Sharon Day told the crowd that voters are stupid if they don’t vote Republican this November when the 2014 midterm election kicks off.

It’s not going to be an easy election, it’s a close election. Like I said, much closer than I can even understand why. I don’t want to say anything about your Wisconsin voters but, some of them might not be as sharp as a knife.

This is not only an insult of Democratic voters, it’s an insult of independent voters as well. Day is clearly claiming that people who don’t vote for Republicans aren’t smart enough to participate in the democratic process. This coming from a person whose party has embraced stupidity and ignorance for years. It should also be noted that Wisconsin Republicans actively sought to disenfranchise thousands of registered voters across the state in an effort to rig the election for themselves.

Kleefish echoed Day on the stage when it was her turn to speak. “Though we have one of the finest closing arguments in the United States of America, this election is still locked up in a dead heat,” she said. “We need to make sure we turn out voters. We need Wisconsin to be red.”

If that “closing argument” is that job creation in Wisconsin has improved since Republicans took over the statehouse and governorship in 2010, it’s not a “fine” one at all. Since 2010, Wisconsin has slipped into a downward spiral in private sector job growth from 11th in the nation to 44th. This was after Scott Walker promised to create 250,000 jobs in the state. He’s only created half that number.

In addition, Wisconsin Republicans have viciously attacked labor unions, reproductive rights, and voting rights over the last four years. In short, Republicans have turned the state into a conservative playground that has negatively affected the lives of the people of Wisconsin.

For Day and Kleefish to add insult to injury against Wisconsin voters is outrageous and should motivate people to vote in a big way. If Democrats and independents didn’t have a reason to vote before, they sure as hell have one now. And they should make the most of it considering it could be the last vote they ever get to cast if Republicans are allowed to have their way.
