Glenn Beck Gets Hit With Defamation Lawsuit, Judge Allows It To Proceed To Court

Glenn Beck has been biting off more than he can chew for years, and now his inflammatory rhetoric and conspiracy theories are coming back to hit him where it hurts: his wallet.

The hateful host and founder of TheBlaze jumped way over the line last year after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 when he publicly named Saudi national Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi as the “terrorist” directly connected to the deadly attacks that claimed 3 lives and injured 264 others.

Alharbi had been detained and questioned about the attack, but was cleared. As we all know, Chechen brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were responsible for the bombing. Tamerlan was shot and killed by police and his brother was captured after a massive manhunt.

Even these facts did not deter Beck from continuing to claim that Alharbi was a terrorist. Fed up with Beck constantly dragging him name through the mud, Alharbi finally slapped the right-wing host with a defamation lawsuit that could cost Beck a ton of money if he were to lose. So naturally, he tried to squash the lawsuit. He asked a judge to dismiss the case and today, US District Judge Patti Saris made her decision.

Unfortunately for Beck, Saris refused to dismiss the case, writing that Beck “made numerous false statements about Alharbi on his radio show, even after he was cleared.”

Furthermore, Judge Saris wrote in her opinion:

As a private figure, Alharbi is not required to allege actual malice in order to make out a claim for defamation. Instead, the level of fault required on the defendants’ part is merely negligence… The facts alleged in Alharbi’s complaint easily permit an inference that the defendants were negligent as to the truthfulness of their reports after the authorities cleared his name. The Court need not determine whether the allegations create a plausible claim of actual malice.

In other words, Glenn Beck’s mouth may have just cost him big this time.

Finally, Glenn Beck is going to learn what happens when you take things too far. Most likely, Beck will try to settle this matter out of court to avoid taking a bigger monetary hit than he wants to. He may also be forced to publicly apologize on the air to Alharbi for defaming him and his reputation in an effort to score higher ratings. And it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving lunatic.
