Fox Tells Viewers ‘Obama Is Banning Donuts And Sprinkles’ (VIDEO)

According to Breitbart and the hacks at Fox, Obama is banning donuts and sprinkles. Why? Because he’s an evil grinch that wants to steal all the joy from Christmas, why else?

Of course none of this true. Still, if you needed more proof that the right wing cares a lot about corporate profits but not at all about the lives of American citizens, the latest right wing donut narrative should provide all the proof you need.

As most people know, trans fat has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

More than 15 years ago the FDA began requiring food manufacturers to list the amount of trans fat in their products on the nutritional label. Since that time, the amount of trans fat consumed by Americans has steadily declined.

In 2013, the FDA took steps to begin phasing out trans fat from the American diet altogether. At this point, most companies have already replaced the unhealthy fat with other ingredients.

But facts never stop the right wing from telling their uninformed, government-hating viewers a good scary story.

“Obama is bad. The FDA is evil. They want to take away your cake, donuts and sprinkles.”

Cenk Uygur from The Young Turks has a great rant on this, complete with the December 30, 2014 “Obama is banning our donuts” footage from “Fox and Friends.”

The United States is not the only country on the planet to address the issue of trans fat in foods. Several other countries have banned the use of partially hydrogenated oils, a major source of trans fat in processed and convenience foods.

Argentina, Iceland, Sweden and Switzerland are among the growing number of nation’s that have banned the ingredient. In Denmark, the first country to implement a ban on trans fat, the country has seen a 50 percent decrease in deaths from ischemic heart disease.

And yet, none of these countries have experienced a shortage of cake, donuts or God-forbid, sprinkles.

Trans fats were developed in the early 1900’s as a cheap replacement for butter.

The reason the right wing is pushing this ridiculous “Obama is coming for your sprinkles” narrative is simple; they do whatever their corporate sponsors tell them to do.

Convincing the public to try to stop the FDA from banning a product that puts their very health at risk is a prime example of what the right wing is really about.

These people would try to convince you that it’s OK for food manufacturers to put arsenic and motor oil in your kids macaroni and cheese, if someone was willing to pay them to do it.

But you know, the mean, bad FDA just won’t let them kill people to keep their costs down.

So, no, there is no Obama war on donuts (or cake or sprinkles).

There is however, a right wing war on reality.
