Montana Conservative ‘Christian’: Force Women To Cover Up By Law Just Like Iran Does

A Montana Republican single-handedly reinforced the idea that conservative “Christians” are no different than Muslim fundamentalists when he introduced a bill that would ban women from wearing yoga pants and other revealing or tight-fitting clothing.

On Tuesday, GOP state Rep. David Moore introduced a draconian bill in the state legislature that would amend the state’s indecent exposure laws in a way that would turn Montana into a puritanical society that the Ayatollah of Iran would be proud of.

HB 365 makes it illegal for a person to knowingly expose,

any device, costume, or covering that gives the appearance of or simulates the genitals, pubic hair, anus region, or pubic hair region or exposes any device worn as a cover over the nipple or areola of the female breast that simulates and gives the realistic appearance of a nipple or areola while in a public place or visible from a public place without taking reasonable precautions to prevent exposure, and disregards whether a reasonable person would be offended or alarmed by the act.

In short, even wearing yoga pants in public would be outlawed. How do we know this? Because Moore specifically said so.

“Yoga pants should be illegal in public anyway,” he said according to the Billings Gazette after a committee hearing. Retired professor Walt Hill, who co-wrote the legislation, also made a statement.

“I want Montana to be known as a decent state where people can live within the security of laws and protect their children and associates from degrading and indecent practices. I believe this bill is written preserving that reputation.”

Both men made the move after they (GASP!) witnessed naked bicycle riders taking part in a Bare as you Dare cycling event in August. So, they used the event as an excuse to attack the human body. The bill also forbids men from exposing their own nipples, which means shirts and skins just became shirts and shirts. Presumably, even swimsuits and bikinis could violate the law if the bill were to actually pass.

But as is usually the case with conservatives, the bill mostly targets women. Democratic state Rep. Virginia Court told Moore “I think you are kind of being a little prejudiced against women.”

The bill not only gives police officers the power to decide what clothing violates the law, thus setting up future unnecessary confrontations with cops, it also sets up harsh punishments.

People who violate the law could be fined up to $10,000 and face life in prison after a third offense.

Without a shadow of a doubt, conservatives are so obsessed with legislating how women dress that they are willing to institute their own version of Sharia law that would make members of Al-qaeda, ISIS, or the Taliban feel right at home. Plus, it’s not women who are dreaming up these laws. It’s men. Men who clearly want to control women, women’s bodies, and the clothing women choose to wear.

This obsession with forcing medieval dress codes upon Americans is embarrassing and is just another reason why Republicans are not fit to hold public office. They constantly push the claim that Muslims are bringing Sharia law into the United States, only to turn around and support their own version of it. That’s hypocrisy, not to mention a clear violation of our personal lives. Once again, a red state is making an effort to proclaim the title of ‘craziest conservative state’ in the nation.
