Saudi Cleric Claims Earth Does Not Revolve Around The Sun — Twitter Responds Perfectly (VIDEO/TWEETS)

The most ridiculous video of the month has arrived on YouTube. In the video, a Saudi Arabian cleric explains to world why he does not believe that the Earth revolves around the Sun.  This might soon take first place over Bill O’Reilly’s infamous “tide goes in; tide goes out” video, as the most ridiculous case of “I have no clue what I am talking about but I am going to talk about it publicly anyways”, there is.

Now to be clear, he is not just saying that the solar system does not operate on a heliocentric model. Oh no, he goes way beyond that and claims that the Earth is not moving at all.

Here is the full video clip in Arabic.

Here is one that has English translations.

He says in the video:

“First of all, where are we now? We’re going to Sharjah Airport to travel to China by plane, [is that] clear? Focus with me, this is the Earth”, he says as he holds a sealed cup of water.

He says if the plane stops, “China would be coming towards it in case the Earth rotates in one direction. If the Earth rotates in the opposite direction, the plane would never reach China, because China is also rotating.”

Of course, there is hashtag on Twitter now where people are making fun of the remarkably scientifically illiterate man. Let’s see what people are saying about him on the hashtag  #داعية_ينفي_دوران_الأرض   which roughly translates to, #cleric_rejects_rotation_of_Earth.

This irony was immediately spotted.

We really need to update to a solar-powered model. Those batteries are expensive.

Some things got a little racist until  this was pointed out.

Apparently he missed this memo.

We are waiting to hear back from one of them.
