President Obama Rips Mitch McConnell A New One After He Tries Taking Credit For Economic Turnaround (VIDEO)

There are two things we know to be true: the country, under the leadership of President Obama, has turned around economically, and that Mitch McConnell is an unapologetic obstructionist. But McConnell wants to cash in on the countries economic turnaround by taking credit after being Majority Leader for a month.

Before we go into the President’s smackdown of such an asinine assertion, let’s remember some of the great things McConnell and his gang of Republican thugs filibustered that would have been great for the American public:

  1. The DREAM Act
  2. The DISCLOSE Act
  3. The Paycheck Fairness Act
  4. The Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act
  5. The Emergency Senior Citizens Relief Act
  6. The Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act
  7. The American Jobs Act
  8. The Buffet Rule
  9. Teacher and Responders Back to Work Act
  10. Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act
  11. The Manchin-Toomey Background Checks
  12. The Keep Student Loans Affordable Act
  13. The Bring Jobs Home Act
  14. The Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act
  15. The Student Loan Affordability Act

You may have remembered (or not) when President Obama slammed Republicans for filibustering over 500 pieces of legislation that would have helped middle class Americans, which he says has “led to an increase in cynicism and discouragement among the people who were counting on us to fight for them.”

So with all these important pieces of legislation having been filibustered, and the Obama Administration barely being able to work with Congress, Mitch McConnell wants to take responsibility for anything that had passed the Senate and the House.

McConnell actually said, on the Senate for, that “The uptick [in economic data] appears to coincide with the biggest political change of the Obama administration’s long tenure in Washington: the expectation of a new Republican Congress.”

At a DNC winter meeting, this is how President Obama responded to McConnell:

“I just want everybody to remember that at every step when we made these policies, when we made this progress, we told by our good friends the Republicans that our actions would crush jobs, explode deficits, and destroy the country. I mean, I want everybody to do a fact check, and go back 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. Just go back and look at the statements that were made each year by these folks about all of these policies.

Apparently, they don’t remember.

But the facts are before us. The economy kept growing. The stock market has more than doubled. Restoring the 401(k)s of millions of people. Our deficits are down by two-thirds.

I always find it curious that when a Democrat is president, deficits go down. Republican is president, and then the deficits are going up.

Our auto industry is firing on all cylinders. None of this is an accident.

Our Republican leader in the Senate as he was coming in after trying to block every single thing that we have done to strengthen the economy starts looking at the job numbers and says, “You know, it’s getting better because we just got elected. People are feeling more optimistic.”

Which, ok? I didn’t know that’s how the economy worked, but maybe? We’ll call some economists.”

I got news for Mitch: that isn’t how the economy works. The country doesn’t magically bounce back in the two months between the election and the day you take office. If that was how it worked then Bush would have overseen the worst financial disaster and the biggest rebound before Obama took office.
