Chris Matthews Takes Netanyahu To The Woodshed For Trying To ‘Take Over U.S. Foreign Policy’ (VIDEO)

In response to Benjamin Netanyahu’s fluff-filled speech to Congress, MSNBC host Chris Matthews blasted the Israeli Prime Minister for trying to hijack U.S. foreign policy from President Obama.

During his speech to the Republicans who see him as their real leader, Netanyahu wasted no time in his mission to wreck diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Not only did he urge a rejection of the deal, he used Holocaust victims to equate Iran with Nazi Germany, accusing the Islamic nation of “gobbling up nation,” and accused President Obama of paving Iran’s “path to the bomb.”

Of course, when the AP fact-checked Netanyahu on both claims, they found he was playing fast and loose on the facts.

In addition, Netanyahu exaggerated the dangers of Iran’s capabilities just as he did when he spoke about Iraq in front of Congress in 2002 before America entered that costly and deadly war. He talked about Iran blowing up a mock US aircraft carrier, which is true. But it was a military exercise, not unlike exercises our own military or the Israeli military execute every year. Iran exercise certainly didn’t concern the US Navy, as Commander Kevin Stephens of the fifth fleet remarked,

“We’re quite confident of our naval forces’ ability to defend themselves. It seems they’ve attempted to destroy the equivalent of a Hollywood movie set.”

Netanyahu also huffed an puffed about Iran being aggressive towards its neighbors and dreaming of exterminating Israelis, which is hypocritical talk coming from a man whose country has literally seized land illegally from Palestinians while wages an ethnic cleansing campaign against them.

Bibbi even had the gall to accuse Iran of not being forthcoming about their nuclear program even though Israel itself has refused to come clean about their own. Furthermore, while Iran has complied with the IAEA and has submitted to inspections, Israel has not. To be blunt, if a Middle Eastern nation is going to launch a nuclear weapon, it’s going to be Israel first given that they seem to be obsessed with preemptive strikes, and the fact that Israel has the only arsenal of nukes in the region, making them a bigger threat to their neighbors than Iran is.

All of this, including Netanyahu’s blatant attempt to dictate US foreign policy, did not impress Matthews, who promptly slammed the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

“I’ll get to the heart of this speech now. This man from a foreign government walked into the United States legislative chamber and tried to take over U.S. foreign policy. He said, ‘You should trust me, not your president on this. I am the man you should trust, I am your true leader on this question of U.S. geopolitics. To protect yourself, you must listen to me and not this president.’

“It was a startling situation. To allow someone to come in — knowing that was going to be their message — to the U.S. Congress. This was a decision made by Boehner and certainly complied with by Netanyahu and his ambassador [Ron Dermer]. They went into the U.S. Congress to take over U.S. foreign policy from the president.”

Indeed, Republicans and Netanyahu have clearly been conspiring to do this for some time. The deal being discussed by US and Iranian officials could now be in serious jeopardy. Instead of giving peace a chance to succeed, Republicans and their Israeli overlord have sought to sabotage the talks from the beginning because they would rather wage perpetual holy war. But Matthews wasn’t finished taking Netanyahu and the GOP to the woodshed.

“Think it through, what country in the world would let a foreign leader come in and attempt to wrest from the president control of the U.S. foreign policy? This was a takeover attempt by Netanyahu with this complying America partners to take American foreign policy out of the hands of the president.”

In other words, Republicans have betrayed the United States by pledging allegiance to the leader of a foreign nation and by helping him disrespect and undermine the sitting American president.

Americans should be disgusted by this circus act put on by Republicans and Netanyahu. They should be so disgusted that they call for ending the $3 billion in defense money we give to Israel every year. In his speech, Netanyahu claimed Israel could stand alone. It’s time to let them.

It’s also time to stop pretending that we need to be the lone peacekeeper in the Middle East. Netanyahu would love nothing more than for us to declare war on Iran tomorrow and send our troops to fight and die on a desert battlefield while his country sits on the sidelines to watch as we do their bidding.

For too long, Israel and Netanyahu have been taking advantage of our status as allies, and now our autonomy as a nation is directly threatened. We are now at risk of losing an opportunity for peace and of being dragged into an even bloodier and longer war than the previous two wars combined. For 20 years, Netanyahu has been crying wolf about Iran in an effort to lie America into war. For the sake of our society and the lives of our men and women in uniform, we need to re-evaluate our relationship with Israel before they dupe us into lighting the world on fire in pursuit of their own quest for regional domination.
