Find Out Why This NYC Gun Store Has The NRA Up In Arms (VIDEO)

Customers at a new “gun store” on the Lower East Side of New York City were shocked when they saw what the proprietors were selling. While they were treated to an impressive array of handguns and assault weapons, what they learned changed their views forever.

When customers inspected their potential weapons purchases, the clerk helpfully told them all about the firearm — including people that type of weapon has killed. The store, of course, was a front for an educational social experiment created by States United To Prevent Gun Violence.

“This revolver, it’s the easiest gun we have to use. It’s our most popular one. It’s a 22-caliber, six-inch revolver,” the clerk tells one couple. “It’s also a gun that a five-year-old found in his parents’ bedroom, went down and shot his nine-month-old baby brother with it.”

“Collectors love this one,” the clerk tells another man. “Adam Lanza’s mom had one in her collection, too — Until he took this and several other guns and killed her, then went down to Sandy Hook, [and] killed six teachers and twenty innocent children. Twenty little kids — gone.

While they may have wanted to buy a gun, “customers” changed their minds after hearing firsthand the very real dangers presented by firearms. “It is one of our rights,” one woman said, “but my opinion has definitely changed. I don’t feel safe with a gun.”

The “Guns With History” web site also advertises the weapons — like this 9mm submachine gun — a weapon that left a gun instructor dead after he allowed a 9-year-old girl to use it….

This weapon has the perfect combination of automatic firepower and compact size. Every year it attracts countless people to gun ranges. One of them brought his 9-year-old girl along for the fun. She’ll never forget it, because she unintentionally shot and killed the gun instructor who was trying to teach her. (via GunsWithHistory)

…Or this semi-automatic assault rifle– the same weapon James Holmes used to kill 12 people and wound 58 more at a movie theater in Colorado.

This semiautomatic rifle offers the latest standard in reliability. With its 100 round magazine it can fire shots with exceptional speed. If fact, it’s so fast that in just a matter of minutes James Holmes killed 12 people and wounded 58 at the Century Aurora Movie Theater in Colorado. (via GunsWithHistory)

This attempt to educate people about the danger presented by guns did not go unnoticed by the NRA, which said in a statement:

“It’s appalling that the gun control lobby exploits tragedy to further a political agenda. This video reveals their true agenda, which is to ban guns. If gun safety was their main concern they would use their resources to educate people about the safe and responsible use of firearms instead of producing expensive videos to scare people and spread lies.”

Of course, the NRA willfully ignored that states with the highest gun ownership rates also have a gun murder rate 114% higher than those with the lowest ownership rate. A recent study that looked at 30 years of homicide data in all 50 stares found that for each percent increase in gun ownership, there is almost a one percent increase in firearms homicide rate.

Do guns keep us safe, though? According to data, no — not at all. For every time a gun is used for self-defense in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or near the home.

“Every gun has a history,” States United says on its website, “Let’s not repeat it.”

The gun safety advocacy group asks that we sign a petition to “show your support for background checks on all gun sales, a ban on assault weapons, and a limit on the capacity of ammunition magazines and we’ll advocate in Congress on your behalf.” You can sign, here.
