White House Slams Republican Abortion Ban As ‘Disgraceful’ To Rape Survivors

The White House skewered sexist Republicans who passed a bill that bans abortions after 20 weeks. Press secretary Josh Earnest said the attempts from the GOP-controlled legislature was “disgraceful” to victims of rape and incest:

“It’s disgraceful that House Republicans would be considering a party-line vote on legislation that would put additional burdens on survivors of rape and sexual assault.”

It’s beyond disgraceful. It’s sexist, misogynistic, sadistic and downright stupid. While Republicans made the 2014 elections about the economy, they have instead introduced 29 bills aimed at getting in the way of women and their doctors. Luckily, the White House is committed to vetoing the measure should is pass the Senate.

“The bill continues to add a harsh burden to survivors of sexual assault, rape and incest who are already enduring unimaginable hardship,” Earnest said, promising that the veto threat still stands.

The bill passed 242-184 with four Democrats voting in favor and four Republicans voting against. One voted present and five didn’t vote at all. The Democrats who voted in favor were Daniel Lipinksi (Illinois), Collin Peterson (Minnesota), Henry Cueller (Texas), Jim Langevin (Rhode Island).

He also blasted the bill as “inconsistent” with Republican promises to keep government out of individuals’ personal lives, saying, “This piece of legislation, ironically enough, would insert the government right between a woman and her doctor.”

The bill is known as the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” and was thwarted back in January by a group of Republican Congresswomen over a disgusting and offensive provision that rape victims have to report to the police before they have the procedure. Republicans also brought the issue up because of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who was found guilty of murdering babies by severing their spinal cords two years ago.

In 2013, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) introduced a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, without exceptions for rape, incest or health of the mothers, and virtually left women, Republican and Democrat, out of the debate while in committee. The bill failed, obviously, but that hasn’t stopped the right wingers from bringing the issue up again.

Republican attempts to limit women’s healthcare choices have gone on for far too long. They have attacked rape survivors, birth control users, abortion seekers, and women seeking mammograms, pap smears, etc. When is enough going to be enough for these people? When will all women  wake up and realize they are being subjugated by old, white men in suits?

AND LET’S NOT FORGET ONE THING:

Republicans are only against abortion because Democrats are in favor for a woman’s right to control her body. Once a baby is born, Republicans could care less what happens to it. We see this with their opposition to Obamacare, food stamps, unemployment insurance, Pell grants, education, etc.

The White House is dead on. This is beyond disgraceful. Pass a damn jobs bill. An infrastructure bill. Something other than this BS.
