GoDaddy Allegedly Turned Down Job Applicant Because He Was An ‘Obese Christian’ (IMAGE)

Arizona-based GoDaddy, who’s probably the best known hosting/domain support company in the country, has found itself in an unusual discrimination pickle, ironically because someone allegedly doesn’t know how to use email.

Keith Connolly applied for a job as a software engineer with GoDaddy in 2014. In fact, he was recruited for the job but he wasn’t sure he wanted it because of GoDaddy’s “risqué advertisements.”

Connolly made it through two phone interviews, two Skype interviews before landing the in-person interviews. He claims he never mentioned his faith, so he was shocked to see that below the rejection letter was a forwarded email that said, “about keith he’s great for the job in skills but he looks worse for wear do we really want an obeese (sic) christian? is that what our new image requires of us.”

“‘You want to be judged off your skills or maybe a cultural fit with the work culture in the company, something like that,’ Connolly said. ‘You don’t want to be judged on how large you are or where you go on a specific day of the week.’

Connolly said he was embarrassed and depressed when he found the attached emails recently and mentioned it to an attorney. They couldn’t file a claim, though, because the statute of limitations had passed.

GoDaddy is vehemently denying the charges, saying that the forward email is a fraud. They are threatening to sue Connolly. They said that the email does not exist and that the activity log on their recruiting software shows no activity whatsoever on that date under Connolly’s profile. When they did send the rejection email, according to GoDaddy, there were no attached emails. They say that their recruiting software doesn’t even allow attached emails.

As a software engineer, it would probably not be beyond Connolly’s skill set to fake an email like this, but other than revenge, since more than 70 percent of Americans are Christian, and GoDaddy is located in über conservative Arizona, it’s tough to imagine that they would turn away Christians. While discrimination against obesity is a real thing, software engineers are typically behind the scenes and are usually not held up to the physical standards that sales people might be subjected to.
