Miami Herald Columnist Claims S.C. Shooter ‘Doesn’t Look White’ (TWEETS)

The shameful Republican response to Wednesday’s horrific shooting at the African-American church in South Carolina has been to bury their heads in the sand and continue to deny that racism exists, despite the fact that the shooter said he wanted to kill black people.

Most Republicans are simply denying, saying that there’s no way to know what went through the mind of shooter Dylann Roof. Bill Maher summed it up well on Real Time on Friday night:

“The Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, said, ‘We’ll never understand.’ Jeb Bush: ‘We can’t know.’ Jindal, Lindsay Graham, all of them said some version of, ‘It’s incomprehensible. There’s no way to know what motivated a racist to kill black people,’” said Maher. “Fellas, you know what? When a guy like this talks about, ‘The South will rise again,’ he’s not talking about IQ levels. This guy openly said he was trying to ‘start a race war,’ which is delusional, because if Donald Trump’s speech didn’t do it the day before, nothing will.”

Maher, though, apparently hadn’t yet seen the (so far) first place winner of the racism denial prize. That prize belongs to Miami Herald Columnist A.J. Delgado, who tweeted:

There is no question that with Roof’s straight light ashy brown hair and pale skin, he’s white, but the only way Delgado sees to deny any possible racism is to do the same thing they did with George Zimmerman – make it look like racism can’t exist because the accused is of a different race. With Zimmerman, it sort of worked, but only because his mother is Latino and only because most Americans don’t know that Latin America also has its share of racists.

A lot of conservatives have been making the argument that since it was a church and since Roof sat in the church for an hour, it must have been an attack on Christianity. The problem with that is he’s long (for a 21 year-old) been talking about segregation and wanting to start a civil war. He also confessed to cops about wanting to start a race war and complained that “blacks were taking over the world” and that “someone needed to do something about it for the white race.”

Conservatives, including Delgado, really should read up on history. Churches have long been targets of racist violence.

So far, Delgado is the only one I’ve seen actually deny Roof’s race but she has now made her Twitter profile private, hence the screenshots instead of embedded links. She has, however, received the support of race instigator Michelle Malkin:

Delgado has a history of ridiculous denial, to the point where a 12-step program might be appropriate. Last year, she told Sean Hannity that the wife of NFL player Ray Rice knocked herself out in the elevator.

Here’s the audio:

Another time she said that women are brainwashed into believing that they were raped. David Pakman talked about that. Here’s that video:

While most people on Twitter were aghast at Delgado’s tweets following the shooting, she had some supporters. Look for this to become a talking point among conservatives. For them, anything is better than admitting that racism exists.
