Supporter of child molesters and Republican presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee thinks turning churches into gun havens would have prevented the mass shooting at a black church in South Carolina.
Huckabee appeared on Fox News with Todd Starnes on Friday to discuss President Obama’s call for stronger gun control laws in the wake of the mass killing of nine black congregants by right-wing terrorist Dylann Roof on Wednesday.
Starnes disgustingly called President Obama’s remarks “despicable” and Huckabee accused Obama of “grandstanding” minutes after the shooting instead of the 14 hours that had passed prior to Obama’s statement.
Huckabee, who pretends to be a “man of God,” claimed that only bringing more killing machines to church would have prevented Roof from killing as many people as he did.
“All the proposals this president and others have put forward on gun control would not have stopped this shooting anymore than it would have stopped Sandy Hook,” Huckabee said. “The one thing that would have at least ameliorated the horrible situation in Charleston would have been that if somebody in that prayer meeting had a conceal carry or there had been either an off duty policeman or an on duty policemen, somebody with the legal authority to carry a firearm and could have stopped the shooter… It sounds crass, but frankly, the best way to stop a bad person with a gun is to have a good person with a weapon that is equal or superior to the one that he’s using.”
Ironically, Huckabee went on to refer to churches as peaceful places that people expect to be safe even as he calls for more guns in churches. After the interview, Starnes accused President Obama of dividing the nation.

Huckabee and Starnes seem to think that President Obama is literally trying to take every gun in America away from gun owners. But that is not the case at all. In fact the one gun control policy President Obama has pushed for most of all is stronger background checks, something that NRA members and the general public both agree should be enacted.
And stronger background checks alone could have prevented Dylann Roof from getting his hands on the .45 caliber handgun he used to commit his act of terrorism.
WYFF NBC 4 News investigated how Roof got his gun and how stronger federal and state background checks would have prevented him from getting one through the two avenues reported by the New York Times and the Washington Post. Either Roof purchased his gun himself at a gun store or he received the gun as a birthday gift.
According to federal gun laws, Roof should not have been able to purchase a gun. Records show he was arrested and charged with felony drug possession earlier this year. Federal gun laws prohibit people with pending felony charges from obtaining firearms, so a local gun shop would be required to run a background check through the FBI.
A local gun shop owner who spoke with WYFF News 4 Investigates said the system is flawed because pending charges don’t always show up on background checks.
If the gun was given as a gift, a background check would not be necessary. South Carolina laws do not require unlicensed private sellers to perform background checks or ask about a person’s criminal history. However, if Roof’s father gave him a gun and knew about his felony drug charges, his father could face charges.
So, simply enacting stronger state and federal background checks could have been enough to prevent Roof from getting his gun. But as usual, Republicans like Huckabee would rather call for a “guns everywhere” policy despite the fact that America has more guns than any nation in the world, yet has the most gun violence. Clearly, more guns hasn’t reduced gun violence so it’s time to try something else before more lives are lost due to Republicans and their stupidity.
