Mike Huckabee Goes On Tirade Against Supreme Court Over Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

Mike Huckabee completely lost his sh*t on Friday after the Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage legal nationwide in a statement demonstrating his total distaste for the Constitution.

On Friday, the nation’s highest court ruled that same-sex couples have a 14th Amendment right to be treated equally under the law, which includes the right to marry.

Despite making their ruling by following the Constitution, Republican presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee issued a statement decrying the decision by the “imperial court” and whined about how the Justices didn’t rule based on the Bible.

“The Supreme Court has spoken with a very divided voice on something only the Supreme Being can do-redefine marriage,” Huckabee wrote on his website before vowing to disobey the ruling.

“I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch. We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not retreat.

This ruling is not about marriage equality, it’s about marriage redefinition. This irrational, unconstitutional rejection of the expressed will of the people in over 30 states will prove to be one of the court’s most disastrous decisions, and they have had many. The only outcome worse than this flawed, failed decision would be for the President and Congress, two co-equal branches of government, to surrender in the face of this out-of-control act of unconstitutional, judicial tyranny.”

Huckabee, as usual, fails at basic constitutional knowledge and history. The fact is that the Constitution is the law of the land, not the Bible. If the Founding Fathers had intended for the Bible to be the law in our country, they would not have written the Constitution in the first place and would have made it clear that this nation is a theocracy.

The 14th Amendment of the Constitution clearly states:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Because same-sex marriage bans deprive gay people of their liberty and equal protection under the law, the Supreme Court was correct to strike them all down and rule marriage equality legal across the country. Furthermore, Huckabee appears to also be ignoring the overwhelming change of opinion among Americans in support of marriage equality. Poll after poll shows that a majority of Americans support same-sex marriage. And state polls have consistently shown that a majority of people support overturning bans in their own state.

Huckabee, however, accused the Court of writing laws and played the religious persecution card:

“The Supreme Court can no more repeal the laws of nature and nature’s God on marriage than it can the law of gravity. Under our Constitution, the court cannot write a law, even though some cowardly politicians will wave the white flag and accept it without realizing that they are failing their sworn duty to reject abuses from the court. If accepted by Congress and this President, this decision will be a serious blow to religious liberty, which is the heart of the First Amendment.”

The Supreme Court’s decision does not persecute Christian bigots like Huckabee. If it did, Huckabee would be arrested and jailed for continuing to preach hatred against gay people in the name of his God. What it does do is ban Christian bigots like Huckabee from illegally depriving gay people of their constitutional rights while using the Bible to justify it. Once again, the Supreme Court is saying loud and clear that the Constitution is the law in this nation, not a book written 2,000 years ago in a foreign land.
