Landmarks Nationwide Lit Up The Night In Beautiful Support Of Marriage Equality (IMAGES)

After the landmark decision by the Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, an overwhelming amount of support for the gay community has come from far and wide. From furthest reaches of the nation and in places that ordinarily one wouldn’t expect this much overt support.

It’s really quite something, and a beautiful reminder to see how far we’ve come as a nation to recognize the rights of LGBT Americans.

Even baseball games got in on the love…

It’s quite extraordinary, to say the least. The fact that a little over ten years ago Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriage, and in such a short amount of time, marriage equality is now nationwide. However, as President Obama said in his remarks after the decision came down:

“Progress on this journey often comes in small increments. Sometimes two steps forward, one step back, compelled by the persistent effort of dedicated citizens. And then sometimes there are days like this, when that slow, steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt.”

Having such broad support for marriage equality from sea to shining sea is such a beautiful testament to how the nation will always move forward despite harsh criticisms from those who would like the nation to stay in the dark ages of hate and discrimination. There will always be those who feel they know best, that religion should rule, and that loving thy neighbor only counts if they are exactly as they are.

However, for the majority of Americans, who choose love over hate, progress over dogma, equality over discrimination, and the future over the past,  we will continue to move forward and enter into a new period of enlightenment.

The 14th Amendment guarantees citizens, ALL citizens, equal protection under the law. Seeing these landmarks light up the night, is more than just beautiful, it’s breathtaking.
