NBC Finally Fires Racist Donald Trump

Looks like Donald Trump is the one who’s fired. After making “recent derogatory statements” regarding Mexican-American immigrants, NBC has severed all business ties with the 2016 hopeful and host of Celebrity Apprentice. In a statement, NBC said:

“To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC.  In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in The Celebrity Apprentice on NBC. Celebrity Apprentice is licensed from Mark Burnett’s United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue.”

Because NBC did the right thing by “firing” Trump, he will lose out on a five year, $13.5 million contract with the media conglomerate to air The Miss USA pageant which is sponsored by  Trump’s Miss Universe Organization. Although $13.5 million might be couch change to Trump (whose net worth is $4.5 billion), the message is loud and clear: NBC will not tolerate a despicable racist. Nor will Univision, who also severed their ties because of “insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants.”

The National Hispanic Media Coalition praised NBC’s decision, saying “hundreds of thousands of Latinos and non-Latinos cheer NBC Universal and its parent company Comcast for severing their relationship with Donald Trump for his bigoted, racist, anti-Latino rant.”

Little hint, Donald: calling Mexicans “rapists” will do you no good. In today’s world, it’s not acceptable to be a bigot. You will lose, and you will be shamed.

In typical Trump form, his response read like a spoiled, egotistical child’s angry blog post:

“As of today, Donald J. Trump is no longer affiliated with NBC. Mr. Trump stands by his statements on illegal immigration, which are accurate. NBC is weak, and like everybody else is trying to be politically correct— that is why our country is in serious trouble…If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court.”

Of course Trump threatened to sue. I’m waiting for the “free speech” Republicans to defend NBC’s firing of an employee who gave them a bad name…..no? Anyone? I guess not. Networks can and do cancel shows whenever they want, so Trump’s threat of court is all smoke and mirrors, like his presidential campaign.

I’m glad NBC fired Trump, and hopefully the Republican electorate does the same thing in the primary elections. Actually, I hope they nominate him, so Sanders or Clinton could crush him in the general.
