Donald Trump Helpless As More Abandon Him Over His Racist Remarks

Donald Trump is learning the hard way that bigotry and racism have consequences. Univision dropped the Miss USA pageant, NBC fired him, and now a Chicago-area microbrewery, which has been working with Trump Tower in Chicago, has severed its ties. 5 Rabbit Cerveceria has been serving a house beer in a restaurant in Trump Tower for the last several months. However, they too, take issue with Trump’s hateful remarks towards Latinos, so they’re out.

The owners of 5 Rabbit Cerveceria are Latin-American born themselves, and Andres Araya, the owner, sent a statement to WBEZ Chicago Public Radio, which said:

“We would be doing an injustice to the community we serve (and live in) by engaging in business with someone who does not accept our role in society and expresses a rhetoric of hate and ignorance towards us.”

Araya went on, saying:

“On a personal level, if I did, one of the things that scares me the most is sending the wrong message to my daughters. We are active members of this immigrant community and we need to stand up for ourselves, and more importantly, for those who do not have the voice or means to do so. The very foundation of the United States of America was built on acceptance and inclusion.  That is what drew us here, and that´s what why we feel so strongly about this.

“As a company, an integral part of our vision reads that we are ‘not only based in, but also look to promote a strong and positive image of Latin America, its heritage and people.’

“It would be hypocritical of us to sustain the relationship.”

Last week, Donald Trump made waves when he said that we’re absorbing other countries’ problems, and that “Mexicans” were “bringing crime, they’re rapists,” but some were good people. In other words, the one or two he knows personally are good people, and the rest are criminals and rapists.

He then doubled down on those remarks, saying again that some are good, and that he wasn’t talking about just Mexicans. He said there are people “from all over that are killers and rapists and they’re coming into this country.”

What’s not for 5 Rabbit to be upset with, here? They’re Latino, and that’s offensive. Trump doesn’t seem to know that, though. He came to Chicago on Monday and continued to stand by that nonsense, according to WBEZ. He justified calling Latino immigrants “rapists” by citing a statistic that says 80 percent of girls smuggled from Central America have been raped.

That means at least 80 percent of the immigrants coming here are rapists. Because obviously. What’s actually obvious is that he has no clue what that statistic actually means, or who those rapists really are.

Trump has said he’s going to sue Univision for breach of contract, and he called NBC “weak and foolish,” and has threatened to sue them, too. He claims, according to Fox News, that he was only speaking to the horrible illegal immigration problem we have here in the U.S. Nothing more. So that makes it all okay.

There are better ways to do that than calling Latino immigrants “criminals” and “killers” and “rapists.” 5 Rabbit is only a local establishment, but in a city that reveres its local businesses, losing a relationship with one is a serious blow. It makes your business less local-friendly, and more generic.

Bravo, 5 Rabbit! Thank you for standing up to this hateful bigotry.
