You would think that after all of the backlash Donald Trump has faced over his anti-immigrant comments, that he would apologize to the community or at the very least STOP insulting them; but that’s not what’s happening. Instead of behaving like a decent human being, Trump justified his xenophobia by bringing up a random shooting in San Francisco.
Earlier this week, Kathryn Steinle, 32, was walking along Pier 14 in the city when she was fatally shot in a random act if violence. Police arrested her killer, Francisco Sanchez, 45, who has a long criminal history and reportedly deported back to Mexico five times. At the time of the shooting he was on probation for a crime he committed in Texas.
Trump decided to use this completely random act as a way to justify his anti-immigrant rhetoric and released a statement that said:
“This senseless and totally preventable act of violence committed by an illegal immigrant is yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately. This is an absolutely disgraceful situation and I am the only one that can fix it. Nobody else has the guts to even talk about it.”
He looked at a tragedy and decided that he would use this poor woman’s death to justify the comments he made two weeks ago. Where were the examples of murderous Mexicans then?
This one crime does not change the fact that the border is more secure now than it has ever been. This one crime does not change the fact that immigrants are no more inclined to commit crimes than an American born person. He is saying,”Hey look! This Mexican dude killed an American so obviously that means they are all horrible people!” That would be like me saying I hate all white, American men because my father was murdered by one. It doesn’t make any sense and it certainly doesn’t justify his horrible statements.
Trump is a racist douchebag and it doesn’t matter how many “examples” he cites, he will still be a racist douchebag. I hope he keeps running his mouth and completely obliterates the business his father built. Karma is a fabulous thing and it’ll catch up to him.
