‘Family Values’ GOPer Spread Fake Gay Sex Story About HIMSELF To Hide Affair With Mistress

A Michigan Representative who spent his time in office viciously attacking his state’s gay community (or the “gay agenda” as he calls it) and advocating for a complete ban on abortion has recently been caught red handed in his own sordid sex scandal – and his attempted cover-up is a doozy.

Rep. Todd Courser (R-Of Course) is a married man with children, but that didn’t stop him from sleeping with one of his colleagues, Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R-Obviously) who is also married with children. Their love affair quickly spiraled out of control, though, and in May the two realized they were on the verge of being exposed.

Ironically, while this affair was unfolding, Courser was leading the charge against gay marriage in his state. In June, while still covering up his affair, he introduced a package of legislation that would “divest” the state of Michigan from being able to officially recognize marriage and was solely devoted to preventing gay people from getting the right to marry by allowing churches to discriminate against them – you know, because “sanctity of marriage” and all that.

While he was protecting what he believed were “Judeo-Christian values,” Courser was also frantically trying to protect his own ass from all the extra-marital sex he was having. He settled on the most insane scheme imaginable to do so. As MLive reports:

Courser, R-Lapeer, reportedly told [his staffer Ben] Graham to send a fake and salacious email about himself to Republican operatives, alleging that the lawmaker had been caught having sex with a male prostitute behind a Lansing nightclub.

The email was an intentionally outlandish “smear campaign” designed to blunt any claims about a relationship between he and Gamrat, Courser said on one recording, making them seem “tame by comparison.”

When asked about whether inventing a fake gay sex scandal to cover up a very real non-gay sex scandal was a tad bit dishonest, Courser delivered what could have been a cheesy line from a Bond villain: “In a controlled burn, you do a little bit of truth mixed in with a lot of lies.”

Instead of a controlled burn, Courser and Gamrat’s plan was incinerated on takeoff. After Courser’s staffer told him that he would not engage in this unethical lie, Courser fired him, leaving Graham with a ton of evidence against him. In the wake, other staffers were also fired if they wouldn’t engage in the cover-up.

Both Tea Party candidates have remained quiet about the evidence against them. Courser told MLive that yes it was him on the tape but said he believed it was illegal to record the audio in the first place. The law is unclear; however Courser may be right. On the other hand, he was engaged in a massive cover-up and attempted lie while sitting in his taxpayer-paid office speaking with a taxpayer-paid staffer so it could be reasonably concluded that the recordings were public domain. Thoughts of the Nixon’s infamous White House tapes come to mind.

As we’ve seen time and again, Tea Party “social conservatives” have a really difficult time living up to the kind of morals they try to impose on others. From encouraging their mistresses to seek abortions to having sex outside of their divinely sanctified marriages, the group is much better at casting the first stone than living without sin. You’d think there would be a biblical passage somewhere that would warn them not to do that.
