Donald Trump Threatens To ‘Scare The Pope’ With ISIS If He Condemns Capitalism (VIDEO)

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump continues to be a never-ending feed of offensive nonsense – and this time he’s targeting a holy figure. No one is off-limits for the GOP’s most egotistical representative.

Just days after saying that he wanted to end birthright citizenship, Trump threatened to scare Pope Francis with ISIS if he decried capitalism during his September visit to the United States.

During his trip to the U.S., the pope is rumored to be making a stop at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where he will criticize American economic policies. During this stop, the pope also intends to express his support for immigrants by using a chair constructed by Latino workers. Trump is taking this as a big “f*ck you” to his racist anti-immigration stance, and has stepped up his ridiculous conservative rhetoric accordingly.

You can see just what that means in the short clip below:

In the above interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Trump promised to scare the pope with threats that ISIS extremists would kill him and seize the Vatican. Trump said he wanted to tell the pope:

“ISIS wants to get you. You know that ISIS wants to go in and take over the Vatican — you have heard that. That’s a dream of theirs.”

When Cuomo questioned the ethics behind trying to drive fear into Pope Francis’ heart, Trump was embarrassingly unapologetic:

“I’m going to have to scare the pope. The pope, I hope, can only be scared by God, but the truth is — you know, if you look at what’s going on — they better hope that capitalism works, because it’s the only thing we have right now. And it’s a great thing when it works properly.”

In nearly the same breath, Trump agreed with the pope’s criticism that capitalism isn’t working properly in America because it was being regulated. Trump said,  “Between regulation, between all of the Dodd-Frank (Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act), between all of the different things that have been imposed, we aren’t competitive like we used to be. We have to open up our country to great capitalism.”

Pope Francis, on the other hand, has spoken against the unregulated free market that Trump is in favor of. Francis referred to it as “tyranny.” Specifically, the pontiff wrote:

“Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”

Trump insists that the pope can be convinced otherwise, and probably thinks he’s the man for the job: “I’ve seen a lot of what he’s opposed to, and I don’t think the pope is opposed to capitalism.”

I would honestly love to hear what Pope Francis thinks about Donald Trump running for president.
