Donald Trump Finally Cites Favorite Bible Verse, And It’s Completely Made Up (VIDEO)

Ladies and gentlemen, the moment for which you have all been waiting has arrived: Donald Trump finally — at long last — has named a favorite Bible verse. In his continuing attempts to pander to conservatives, The Donald finally got over his inability to tell “Christians” what he likes about the book they use to justify human and civil rights violations. Unsurprisingly, Trump’s favorite Bible verse…is one he completely made up.

Previously, Trump was more than happy to say that his favorite book is “the Bible,” but when asked for a favorite verse, he punted. After that embarrassing display, the businessman had two choices: learn a Bible verse, or just wing it. The Donald chose the latter. About three weeks later, Trump was finally able to answer that question. In an interview with CBN’s “The Brody File” on Tuesday, he informed the host that his favorite verse is:

“There’s so many things that you can learn from it (The Bible). Proverbs, the chapter ‘never bend to envy.’ I’ve had that thing all of my life where people are bending to envy.

Actually it’s an incredible book, so many things you can learn from the Bible and you can lead your life. I’m not just talking in terms of religion; I’m talking in terms of leading a life even beyond religion. There are so many brilliant things in the Bible…”

Does Trump like the verse because, as a person of means, he often deals with people being envious? Has he struggled with envy? These questions may seem important, but are overshadowed by the big one: Where in the Bible does he think he saw that verse? In all of Proverbs, or in the Bible in general, there is not a single verse (or “chapter,” as Trump called it) that includes the words “never bend to envy.”

“Envy” is mentioned multiple times in the book of Proverbs. Readers are told that “envy rots the bones.” They are instructed not to “envy” the violent, sinners, and the wicked — but nowhere are they told not to “bend” to it, or anything similar.

Of course, who can blame Trump for having to invent a Bible verse? He’s more of a “wait for the movie” sort of guy:

“The Bible, is special, the Bible the more you see it, the more you read it, the more incredible it is. I don’t like to use this analogy, but like a great movie, a great, incredible movie. You’ll see it once it will be good. You’ll see it again. You can see it 20 times and every time you’ll appreciate it more. The Bible is the most special thing.”

CBN reporter David Brody, in an effort to cover for The Donald, told the Washington Post that Trump’s aides said the verse Trump was referencing was Proverbs 24:1-2:  “Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.” The verse, of course, does not include the words “never”, “bend”, or “envy” — though it does include a form of the latter, if one truly wishes to twist oneself into a pretzel in an effort to defend The Donald.
