DNC Chair Blasts Rubio For Thinking Fundraiser With Nazi Collector On Yom Kippur Was Great Idea

Remember when Mitt Romney held a fundraiser in the home of a wealthy prick who collects Nazi memorabilia? Well, Marco Rubio sure doesn’t and he’s taking the ill advised fundraiser to a whole new insulting level.

Harlan Crow is a conservative mega donor who owns a mansion in Texas that contains a right-wing treasure trove of Nazi artifacts such as paintings by Hitler and a signed copy of “Mein Kampf.” Crow also owns a set of dinnerware and linens once used by the murderous tyrant who ordered the extermination of millions of Jews during World War II.

And it is among these items where Republican presidential wannabe Marco Rubio has chosen to hold a fundraiser for his campaign. As if that wasn’t insulting enough, Rubio’s fundraiser among Hitler’s stuff is occurring on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year on the Jewish calendar.

It’s also hypocritical since Republicans are constantly comparing President Obama and Democrats to Nazis. Meanwhile, Rubio and other conservatives are carousing among items once owned by Hitler himself while they claim to love Israel at the same time.

Rubio’s fundraising faux pas drew the ire of Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, who is Jewish. In a statement, the current head of the DNC blasted Rubio for insulted Jews everywhere, especially the 638,985 Jews who live in Rubio’s home state of Florida.

“An event at a home with items like these is appalling at any time of the year. Holding an event in a house featuring the artwork and signed autobiography of a man who dedicated his life to extinguishing the Jewish people is the height of insensitivity and indifference. It is astounding that the presence of these items — that represent horror for millions of Jews the world over — would not stop Mr. Rubio or anyone on his team in their tracks when planning this event.”

At a time when Republicans are finding it difficult to shake comparisons of the GOP to the Nazi Party, Marco Rubio is happily willing to stand among Hitler’s former belongings on Yom Kippur to raise money for his campaign. It makes one wonder how the people of Israel can stomach their government being so close to Republican lawmakers when it is abundantly clear that they are totally fine with begging for cash from a Nazi memorabilia fan surrounded by the Hitler collection during a major Jewish holiday.

Republicans should be embarrassed and ashamed.
