Armed Vet At Scene Of Oregon Shooting Eviscerates ‘Good Guy With A Gun’ Argument (VIDEO)

As we try to get our bearings again after yet another tragic mass shooting at the hands of a madman, as per usual, gun nuts everywhere are screaming “MORE GUNS!” and blaming the Umpqua Community College Campus for being a gun free zone. They blame everything except the real problem: that we need stricter laws regarding who can and cannot purchase firearms.

Well, there’s just one problem with those arguments this time around. The Umpqua campus allows concealed carry, and, according to students and other people affiliated with the school, plenty of people take advantage of it as well. According to John Parker, a student at the school and a veteran of the armed forces, he knows plenty of students who carry on campus; in fact, he was carrying the day of the shooting.

Parker went on to say in his MSNBC interview that he was well-trained to “go into danger” but was glad that he and the other people carrying did not attempt to go into the situation with the active shooter:

“Luckily we made the choice not to get involved We were quite a distance away from the building where this was happening. And we could have opened ourselves up to be potential targets ourselves, and not knowing where SWAT was, their response time, they wouldn’t know who we were. And if we had our guns ready to shoot, they could think that we were bad guys.”

Parker also said he and other students in his vicinity were put into a classroom, and when the professor in charge asked if there was anyone there with a weapon, he responded in the affirmative, and said he’d be willing to protect the others should the shooter come for them.

These statements from the veteran– who is certainly much more well-trained than any of the wannabe vigilantes with too many guns and too few brain cells– proves that the gun nuts’ arguments don’t wash. It would have been more dangerous for Parker and other armed civilians to go into this fray. Luckily, they knew this, and let the authorities handle it.

Of course, the ammosexuals will not allow for this to deter them, but it really is nice to see a calmed, trained gun owner acting and speaking responsibly on the subject, rather than running into a perilous situation like a real-life Rambo.

We should only be so lucky to have more John Parkers in the gun community.
