Justice Dept. Now Focusing On U.S. Right-Wingers, Instead Of Jihadists To Combat Terrorism (IMAGE)

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has just created a new post that will investigate right-wing domestic terrorism in the United States, after realizing that most Americans are being killed by non-Islamic domestic terrorists rather than jihadists. So much for the theory that Muslims are the main threat to this country.

Assistant Attorney General John Carlin reiterated this fact at Washington University this past week:

“We recognize that, over the past few years, more people have died in this country in attacks by domestic extremists than in attacks associated with international terrorist groups.”

What has happened is after 9-11 there has been a contorted view that terrorists must look a certain way. People have begun to think of terrorism as being an act solely committed by people of middle eastern descent, but this is factually incorrect. The truth is, since the twin towers were hit, jihadists have only killed 26 people in the U.S. whereas rightwing radicals have killed 48, according to the New America Foundation.

Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), said that while the number of hate groups in the U.S. is shrinking, many extremists are becoming radicalized entirely on their own. She cited the case of Dylann Roof, widely known for slaughtering nine worshippers inside a black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

“We’ve seen lone actor attacks about every 33 days, mostly white supremacist or anti-government extremists. Homegrown violent extremists can be motivated by any viewpoint on the full spectrum of hate — anti-government views, racism, bigotry, anarchy and other despicable beliefs. When it comes to hate and intolerance, no single ideology governs.”

Many conservatives, however, don’t care about the statistics. They see the new position at the Justice Department as a threat against them. Tom Fitton, of Judicial Watch, thinks Obama is to blame:

“As the Obama administration comes down to its final months in office, look for more brazen, racially charged steps that target law-abiding American citizens who express political views that don’t line up with those of the administration.

This is going to become the vehicle through which the Justice Department can target those who oppose the Obama agenda. This is a solution in search of a problem.”

But, it’s not meant to be a liberal versus conservative thing. It’s certain right-wing fanatics who are causing all the trouble, and they just happen to be white, not Muslim. Conservatives just don’t want to admit that their stereotype of a terrorist doesn’t play anymore.

And, this isn’t the first time.

Remember back in 2009, after the Department of Homeland Security released a report saying pretty much the same thing? Well, Republicans retaliated in a full storm panic against it, saying it was a government attack on conservatives everywhere. But, they were just looking for an excuse to stir up a fake controversy against Obama, which truthfully, limited the Departments ability to combat domestic terrorism, a crime in itself.

Here’s a small fact that completely destroys that myth: The author of the DHS Report, Daryl Johnson, was a conservative, anti-choice gun owner. He was just doing his investigation, wherever it took him. Since it didn’t “fit the narrative” at the time, he was silenced because of it.

Now the Justice Department is taking the bold step to do something about it, an entire six years after the fact. Conservatives may not like the fact that the greatest threats to the U.S. are coming from Caucasian gun owners hell-bent on destroying the “evil government,” but too bad. That’s the reality.
