Bristol Palin Slams Starbucks Red Cup Controversy, Then Sticks Her Foot In Her Mouth

Bristol Palin started out so well until she accused liberals of creating the controversy to make conservatives like herself look stupid.

Because Starbucks decided that a sleek red Christmas cup would suffice instead of printing snowflakes and other holiday designs on them, some conservative “Christians” lost their minds and accused the coffee business of waging “war on Christmas.”

However, many conservatives have defended the red cups, and refuse to boycott Starbucks for a “war on Christmas” they never waged.

That includes Bristol Palin, who wrote in her blog that people really should ignore the so-called “controversy.”

Over the past few years, Starbucks has rolled out their “red cups” right after Halloween to signal the start of the holiday season,” Palin wrote. “Usually adorned with snowflakes and reindeers, this year the cups were given a makeover in a more sleek all red ombre look. And somewhere, somehow someone took offense to the change, claiming it was part of the war on Christmas.”

That’s a pretty good start. It sounds like Brsitol is about to open a can of whoop-ass on the “war on Christmas” claims being fired at Starbucks. But then she completely embarrasses herself by blaming liberals and the media and accusing them of engaging in a conspiracy to make conservatives look stupid.

And the media RAN with it. They used one small group’s opinion about the cups and began attributing it to the greater Christian community. The mainstream media and the Left love their outrage machine where they claim the world is ending because any number of tiny people have expressed hurt feelings on social media. So now, they’re taking a tiny fraction of people’s response and attributing it to all conservative Christians. Do not buy in to the media hype surrounding this story!! It is just another attempt by the LEFT to make Christians look stupid.

According to Bristol, liberal media created the controversy. Except that’s just not true. In fact, conservative media machine Breitbart fired the first barrage of hissy fits over the red cups with the following headline:

WAR ON CHRISTMAS: STARBUCKS RED CUPS ARE EMBLEMATIC OF THE CHRISTIAN CULTURE CLEANSING OF THE WEST

And conservatives only made it take off from there, sharing the Breitbart article over 40,000 times on Facebook and retweeting it over 1,500 times. In other words, enough times to get the attention of the mainstream media.

Conservative “Christian” groups and websites shared the article in outrage. A boycott would immediately be called for, and one right-wing pastor even called upon his flock to tell Starbucks cashiers that their names are “Merry Christmas” in order to force the store to write it on the cups.

So the mainstream media and liberals didn’t make conservatives look stupid. Conservatives made themselves look stupid by creating a conspiracy that never existed in the first place. Starbucks is not waging a “war on Christmas.” Red and green are classic Christmas colors and both appear on the cup. It’s a simple cup and it’s less costly too because Starbucks doesn’t have to spend more money on intricate designs.

What could have been a great rebuke of conservatives who constantly cry foul during the holiday season over nothing ended up being another example of Bristol Palin making herself look like an idiot. She even included a surprisingly sane message posted by Candace Cameron-Bure, the sister of noted conservative kook Kirk Cameron, which read:

Starbucks War on Christmas? It’s a red cup, folks. Until Starbucks puts a baby Jesus or nativity scene on the cup while saying Merry Christmas, then pulls it because they say it’s offensive, let’s talk. I don’t remember Starbucks ever being a Christian company, do you? A Santa, a snowflake, some holly, a polar bear, some jingle bells or plain red cup don’t define Christmas for me as a Christian. My relationship with Jesus does. So, I will joyfully sip on my Starbucks coffee, in a plain red cup, and instead of complaining about the lack of decorations, I will lovingly share the good news of Jesus Christ with friends and co-workers or anyone who’s willing to engage in conversation. Merry Christmas to all!

If Bristol Palin had simply echoed Candace instead of blaming liberals and the media, her blog would have been an example of sanity. Instead, it’s just another example of conservative stupidity. And liberals and the media didn’t create that. Bristol did that all by herself.
