With the revelation that the terrorist attack on San Bernardino, California was carried out by radicalized adherents to ISIS ideology, the growing Islamophobia that is permeating the American conscience has only gotten worse. We even have the president of a major Christian University urging students to buy guns and hunt Muslims. This same dangerous rhetoric has now stretched to former New York governor and little-known GOP 2016 Clown Car candidate George Pataki, who has used his twitter account to promote a “war on radical Islam” amongst his followers. Pataki tweeted:
“We must declare war on radical Islam.
@LorettaLynch I’m not edging toward violent speech, I’m declaring we kill them. Go ahead, arrest me.”
We must declare war on radical Islam. @LorettaLynch I'm not edging toward violent speech, I'm declaring we kill them. Go ahead, arrest me.

So, not only is he literally calling for murder via social media, he also trying to get the Attorney General to engage in his craziness in public. Classy, Governor. Real classy. The reason for Pataki’s inclusion of Lynch in his comments could be that she has pissed off many Muslim-hating right-wingers, by calling for calm, cool heads in the midst of this very tense climate, saying:
“I think it’s important, however, that as we again talk about the importance of free speech we make it clear that actions predicated on violent talk are not America they are not who were they are not what we do and they will be prosecuted.”
And she is right. Free speech is just that — free. You can’t be arrested for what you say if it does not involve direct threats. However, Governor Pataki is inciting hatred and violence.
Now, with the ratched-up hatred toward anyone who even appears to be Muslim in America right now, this is not just grossly irresponsible — it is downright dangerous. Whatcha wanna bet that paranoid gun nuts everywhere who saw that tweet are seriously considering going out and shooting up the first mosque they can find? This kind of murderous hate speech cannot be tolerated, period. The fact that it is a presidential candidate in a major political party in America tweeting something like this is truly disturbing.
Governor Pataki should be arrested for what he tweeted. We’d all be better off if the message that violence, or incitement to violence, against any group of people will not be tolerated was sent loud and clear.
Shame on you, Governor Pataki. You call for violence, I call for your permanent withdrawal from politics, for you are a disgrace to any office you might hold.
