LISTEN: Mike Huckabee HILARIOUSLY Claims He Never Defended Josh Duggar’s Sex Abuse (AUDIO)

Mike Huckabee was perhaps the first major national figure — definitely the first presidential candidate — to vocally support the Duggar family after it was revealed that Josh Duggar had sexually abused his sisters in addition to a variety of other revelations. Huckabee almost immediately jumped into the news cycle and wrapped his arms around both Josh and the entire Duggar cult.

Here’s one of Huckabee’s most memorable Duggar remarks from back in June.

“Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable.’ He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story.”

He’s clearly soft-pedaling the egregiousness of Josh Duggar’s crimes, and for a Christian conservative who despises any sort of sexual behavior outside of hetero sex in wedlock, it’s especially soft. And that’s a de facto defense of Josh.

So, we have no choice but to call bullshit on Huckabee after he claimed on Tuesday that he never defended Josh. Via TPM:

“I really didn’t support Josh,” Huckabee insisted. “I supported his parents, if you’ll go back and look at what I said. There’s no support for what he did.”

Ah. Right. He only supported who again? Josh’s parents? You mean, the two people who actively covered up the sexual abuse of their own daughters in order to sidestep both the law and national condemnation? Those parents? Oh, but we get it. Most of Huckabee’s Christian followers don’t really care about whether Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar obfuscated serious crimes and allowed Josh to go on living his life, knowing he’s a sexual predator with a past loaded with horrendously illegal behavior.

Okay, then. Place your bets on how long it’ll take before Huckabee backpedals from this one.
